Brendan Fraser's sons have spoken out about how proud they are of their father ahead of his appearance at tonight's coveted Academy Awards.

The 54-year-old actor, who is nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Whale at this year's award show, walked the champagne carpet alongside his two sons, Leland, 16, and Holden, 18, as well as his girlfriend, Jeanne Moore.

The family posed for photos before giving an interview in which the star's sons talked about how "unbelievably proud" they were of their father.

"We are unbelievably proud. Over the moon," Holden told Laverne Cox on the E! carpet.

Leland also echoed the same sentiment.

Prior to the event, the actor revealed that his sons were extremely excited about his Oscars nomination, even going as far as throwing their dad a little party to celebrate the occasion.

Speaking to Extra, the actor said that he was "astonished" and "surprised" when asked how he felt about the prestigious nomination.

"...My kids surprised me with cake and balloons. They sneaked into the house, they had a plan. That and the feeling that sharing that moment with my loved ones is now a core memory of mine."

He also expressed his feelings about being part of a movie as emotional as The Whale.

"I think it’s a fulfillment of an aspiration that I would have never even thought to dare to have allowed, let alone to myself, until I came into my 50s and I looked at my life, who I am, what I know about love from my kids and it gives it a context now," he told the outlet.

"I love my job — it is the best one in the world, it also has proven to be something that I can do to help reach others in a way that’s meaningful that has gratitude, that has taught me some humility, that’s why."

This moment marks a special occasion for Fraser as he has been nominated for an Oscar for his first lead role in a major film for 12 years, as per the BBC.

In the movie, the actor plays a morbidly obese English professor who hopes to reconnect with his estranged daughter.

Speaking to the outlet, he expressed that beyond just being an entertaining watch for audiences, he also hopes his work will help to "end the bias against those who live with obesity."

Referring to his character, he said he felt the need "to be the voice for those who live the way that Charlie does", and "to depict him with dignity and with respect in a way that we haven't seen that character played on screen before".

"We can often lose sight that those are human beings with thoughts and feelings and hearts and families," he added.

Fraser will go up against Austin Butler, Colin Farrell Paul Mescal, and Bill Nighy for the Best Actor award at tonight's show.
