Beyoncé's team has responded after the singer was forced to stop her Houston show on Saturday night after a terrifying prop malfunction saw the red Cadillac she was riding in begin to tilt mid-air.
The car, suspended by cables, is part of the Cowboy Carter stadium tour’s finale, carrying the superstar high above fans during her performance of '16 Carriages'. But as the vehicle began to slant to one side, the 43-year-old clung to a flagpole for stability while the audience gasped in shock.
“Stop! Stop, stop, stop stop,” Beyoncé could be heard pleading into the microphone, halting the performance immediately as fans watched on helplessly.
Gasps turned to cheers as the car was slowly lowered, with Beyoncé smiling and waving to fans below. “If ever I fall, I know y’all will catch me,” she told the crowd, who erupted in applause.
“Somebody’s Getting Fired”
Fans took to social media to share videos of the moment, many captioning their clips with Beyoncé’s catchphrase, “somebody’s getting fired,” which she quipped on stage during a 2010 lighting mishap.
On TikTok, one attendee wrote: “Omg she scared me so glad she’s safe and nothing happened!! SOMEBODY GETTING FIREDDDD.”
Another X user tweeted: "So many things wrong with this tour… she needs to fire everyone".
And one fan proudly gushed: "Her ability to smile through the chaos & still continue the performance as if she didn't just experience a scare is truly remarkable, she's a gem."
After exiting briefly, Beyoncé returned to finish her performance, thanking her hometown crowd by saying: “I wanna thank y'all for loving me."
Beyoncé’s company, Parkwood Entertainment, confirmed the incident in a statement, per The Mirror US: “Tonight in Houston, at NRG Stadium, a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyoncé uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt. She was quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident.”
Previous Cowboy Carter Tour Mishaps
This is not the first prop issue Beyoncé has faced on the Cowboy Carter tour.
Earlier in the tour, a robot intended to pour her a drink during her performance missed its mark, spilling Sir Davis whisky over her golden throne instead.
At London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Beyoncé experienced a wardrobe hiccup when her sparkly gold chaps fell to the ground mid-performance during 'I’m That Girl'. She slid down to pick them up, smiled, and swayed to continue her choreography seamlessly as a dancer rushed over to fasten the outfit again.
Fans called the comeback “flawless” and praised the team’s professionalism, with one writing: “Her dancers are so amazing and professional".
A Record-Breaking Tour
Saturday’s show in Houston was the 23rd stop on Beyoncé’s 32-date Cowboy Carter tour, which will conclude in Las Vegas next month.
The three-hour spectacle has been praised for its high-energy staging, artistry, and family moments, with Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughters, Blue Ivy, 13, and Rumi, eight, making appearances.
The tour has broken ticket records at venues like Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London and Stade De France in Paris, adding to Beyoncé’s record of selling out stadiums within minutes, following the high demand seen during her Renaissance World Tour.
Let's just hope the rest of the tour goes off with a hitch.
