Those of you who happen to follow pop megastar Britney Spears will know that she's no stranger to posting topless pictures and videos of herself.

In fact, last Thursday, the 40-year-old 'Toxic' hitmaker sparked backlash among some of her fans when she uploaded 10 topless posts - nine pictures and one video - all within the span of an hour.

While in a London hotel room, she stripped down to nothing but a pair of black and blue leopard print underwear and staged her very own private photo shoot. Taking to Instagram, she then posted nine photos and a video of her lying in bed topless.

Some of Spears' followers felt her incessant skin-baring posts were distasteful and decided to call her out for it.

One fan took to Twitter to write: "I can't believe I am saying this but @britneyspears STOP being Naked on Instagram, please. #BritneySpears."

Another added: "Sadly had to unfollow britney spears on insta cause i would open the app in public and her naked pics would just pop up."

A third penned: "I’m going to say this, I really really really love that Britney Spears is able to express herself now that she has this freedom that she has but I am so tired of seeing her naked on my Instagram timeline…#NoShade."

Spears' penchant for provocative snaps may be turning some of her fans off, but it turns out that she has a good reason for posting photos of that nature to her Instagram platform.

Last year, the Crossroads star took to the photo-sharing app and told her followers in a since-deleted post that she wants to be able to express herself on her own terms after years of feeling "too self conscious about my body."

Britney stated: "I’ve had a billion shows where I’ve done that and to my horror uhhh well … sometimes I didn’t look so great … TOO MANY TIMES and it’s embarrassing as f*** but in my imagination it felt great!!!!

"I mean I don’t want anybody to see the big dimple on my a** but I feel like performing made me too self-conscious about my body and that’s not attractive. [sic]"

She continued: "I was born into this world naked and I honestly feel like the weight of the would has been on my shoulders and it’s made me view myself that way !!!! I wanted to see myself in a lighter way … naked.

"I am a woman …. a beautiful … sensitive woman who needs to look at myself in my purest form !!! No … I’m not going to do topless pics for the rest of my life cause that would get boring but it sure as hell helps when you need to be enlightened. [sic]"

Britney Spears has opened up about why she shares naked photos on Instagram in her new tell-all memoir, The Woman In Me.

Over the last couple of years, the 41-year-old 'Toxic' hitmaker - who has been in the spotlight since her early '90s days on The Mickey Mouse Club - has used her Instagram page to post a number of raunchy pictures or videos.

Whether it's clips of her dancing in underwear or posing nude in her backyard with only strategically placed emojis covering her modesty, the pop princess takes it all off.

The controversial posts often leave her fans divided, prompting them to either praise her or share their concerns for the star  - which has led to the 'Baby One More Time' singer deactivating comments on all her posts. Check out one of Spears' posts below: 

Now, in her new autobiography, Spears finally addressed the commotion surrounding her content and explained why she has a penchant for posting jaw-dropping pics on her social media platform.

In a passage viewed by The New York Times, the Louisiana native believes that many of her followers might find her posts confusing and says that she gets "joy" from being able to pose in a way that makes her feel sexy rather than in a way which has been meticulously choreographed by someone else.

"I know that a lot of people don’t understand why I love taking pictures of myself naked or in new dresses," Spears penned in her book. "But I think if they’d been photographed by other people thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people’s approval, they’d understand that I get a lot of joy from posing the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture."

The statement comes after the 'Stronger' singer sparked concern after posting a video of her waving two large knives around while sporting a crop top and white bikini bottoms.

Although she assured her worried supporters in the caption that the objects were fake, many of her 42.3 million followers still assumed that they were real and even took the drastic measure of calling the cops. Check out the singer's latest knife video:

After the welfare check, the star took to her Instagram to hit out at the cops who showed up at her property in a post, penning: "So unacceptable for cops to listen to random fans and come into my home unwarranted...Jesus Christ...Can I make calls and make others feel threatened in your home?"

She claimed that the authorities who came to her home wouldn't leave "until they spoke to me as people did 4-minute performances with knives," adding: "I am getting an apology. I’ve been bullied in my home for so long now.

"As my mom does the silent treatment when paps ask questions about her own daughter as if I’m in the wrong…nope it’s an old game. People need to be responsible for their actions! It’s about power for cops," she concluded.

Spears' much-anticipated autobiography was released worldwide on October 24.

It features a series of bombshell revelations about her private life, especially her past relationship with Justin Timberlake.

The 'Womanizer' musician claims the 'Sexyback' hitmaker got her pregnant in the early 2000s, but the pair decided to proceed with an abortion because he didn’t want to be a father so young.

In addition to this, she also confirmed the infidelity rumors, revealing that she kissed her dancer/choreographer Wade Robson - which is why Timberlake allegedly ended his relationship with her over a two-word text.

Since extracts from the book have been shared online, it has inevitably caused a stir, prompting Spears to step in to clarify that she did not mean "to offend anyone" by sharing her personal story.

"My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means," she wrote on Instagram, per The Independent. "That was me then... that is in the past!!! I don’t like the headlines I am reading... that’s exactly why I quit the business four years ago!!!"

"Most of the book is from 20 years ago... I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here," she added. "I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life!!! Either way, this is the last of it and s**t happens!!!"

Fans of Britney Spears have rushed to the singer's defense after she shared fully naked photos to Instagram.

The 40-year-old 'Toxic' singer recently took to the social media platform to share a couple of selfies - in which, she is fully naked, except for a pair of white stockings. She captioned the post: "Free woman energy has never felt better."

Of course, Britney was most likely referring to the freedom that came back in November, when a judge ended the conservatorship which has controlled Britney Spears' personal, professional and financial matters for more than 13 years.

The highly-publicized legal battle saw Judge Brenda Penny end the guardianship after the singer's 69-year-old father, Jamie, was removed from his position as conservator in September.

In her new revealing post, Britney can be seen posing in front of a mirror, using her hand and some strategically placed emojis to prevent her images from being taken down. (That being said, they're still perhaps a little too risqué for us to share here.)

In less than 14 hours, the post has already amassed over 2 million likes from the singer's ever-supportive fanbase.

However, as is the way with things on the internet, Britney's photos have been criticized by some, with some Twitter users questioning why the pics were posted in the first place.

But this criticism was never going to fly with the singer's fans - who have taken to Twitter to voice their support for the 'Womanizer' icon.

"Britney Spears being able to do whatever the hell she wants WAS THE ENTIRE POINT OF THIS," one supporter wrote.

Another fan tweeted: "After being abused past the point of even having basic human rights for 13 years, Britney Spears is now having to recover from that trauma under public scrutiny, yet isn't hiding. Her strength amazes me."

A third pointed out: "Reminder - Britney LITERALLY had her genitals posted in newspapers all over the world without her consent. So for her to share naked photos now that she's FREE and on her own terms is a power move. She's taking control and I love that for her."

A fourth referenced the widespread 'Free Britney' social media movement, writing: "It was 'Free Britney' not 'Free Britney unless I don’t like what she’s doing'. If she wants to get naked on Instagram, good for her."

Mathew Rosengart, the attorney who represented Spears in the singer's fight to end her conservatorship, said following the termination of the guardianship: "What's next for Britney is up to one person — and this is the first time we can say this in a decade. It's up to Britney.

"Britney, as of today, is a free woman."

Britney Spears has posted a video of her at the beach topless - and people won't stop commenting on one hilarious detail in the background.

Yesterday, the 40-year-old 'Womanizer' singer posted a video of herself rolling around in the sand at the beach, showing off her white and blue bikini before going topless as she posed for the camera.

She captioned the fun-loving clip: "Baby Did a Bad Thing PART 2 !!!"

Fans who have followed the pop megastar for a while, will already be accustomed to her topless posts. So this aspect of the video alone was not much of a novelty.

What Spears' followers couldn't stop pointing out, though, was that there was a man in the background of her video - who many fans assumed was her bodyguard - standing around awkwardly while the singer posed sans bikini top.

One person wrote alongside three laughing emojis: "The dude in the background."

Another added: "The bodyguard is like 'let me look the other way.'"

A third said: "That man standing there, awkwardly, is whom everyone is wishing they were right now."

A forth commented: "The guy in the background pretending not to look."

Yet another chimed in to write: "The guy in black was shooketh to see Britney Spears flash him. Queen of chaos I love you."

A sixth fan added: "Lol your bodyguard in the back politely standing letting you do your thing."

A different commented weighed in: "Her security guy literally doesn't know what to do with himself."

Spears is no stranger to topless posts on Instagram.

In fact, last year, the music icon shared her reasoning for the provocative posts.

She explained in the caption for an image carousel she uploaded that she was "born into this world naked and I honestly feel like the weight of the would has been on my shoulders and it’s made me view myself that way !!!! I wanted to see myself in a lighter way … naked."

She continued: "I am a woman …. a beautiful … sensitive woman who needs to look at myself in my purest form !!! No … I’m not going to do topless pics for the rest of my life cause that would get boring but it sure as hell helps when you need to be enlightened. [sic]"

Britney Spears is back on Instagram just days after she deleted her account following a police wellness check that was prompted by fans.

The 41-year-old was forced to speak out after her supporters called the Ventura Co. Sheriff's Office to ask cops to be sent to Spears' Thousand Oaks, California home to check on her before a spokesperson concluded that the 'Baby One More Time' singer was not in any form of danger.

"I can confirm that we did get calls into our dispatch, and essentially, I can confirm that we don’t believe that Britney Spears is in any kind of harm or any kind of danger," the police spokesperson said.

They also added that due to a "public trust issue," they could not disclose any further information.

In the wake of the incident, Spears has now re-activated her Instagram account but disabled the comments.

She also took to Twitter to address the topic in a lengthy statement.

"Yep that's me... I'm alive and well," she started, before explaining her reasons for getting rid of Instagram

"I shut down my Instagram because there were too many people saying I looked like an idiot dancing and that I looked crazy. Honestly I was doing my best but it disturbed me to see people freely talk about it on TV... yep it hurt my feelings."

She continued: "I'm sensitive and honestly I would rather take a break and do my ice cream diet anyway... I know I thought it was a joke too... but it's not... it works... surprisingly enough!!!

"I mean DAMN come on... three girls at a restaurant came up to me yesterday so drunk and loud and sat right beside me with that gross smell of alcohol and got right in my face... reminded me of my wedding... I was traumatized..."

The star then went on to say that she told them to "get away" from her and that she "woke up and spoke up for myself... can you believe it??? Honestly I couldn't either... so with that said, please again know I'm doing the best I can... l'm alive, fine, healthy, and ready to start a new day - a new morning anew !!!

"To my real fans, God bless you!!!" the 41-year-old concluded.

Spears has previously addressed similar rumors in the past.

As per TMZ, she emphasized that she felt her privacy was invaded by fans calling the police.

She said the incident made her feel "gaslit and bullied once the incident made it to the news and being portrayed once again in a poor and unfair light by the media."

Spears has been vocal on her social media accounts since her 13-year conservatorship was lifted in November 2021, allowing her renewed control over her personal and financial decisions.

However, fans have been scrutinizing all of the singer's posts, and her absence from the platform led to their recent actions of calling for a wellness check on the star.
