Yesterday, on Monday September 10th, former Disney star David Henrie was arrested at LAX airport for attempting to carry a loaded M&P Shield 9mm pistol through security. The 29-year-old, who shot to fame for his role on The Wizards of Waverley Place in the '00s, "was arrested at 9:05 a.m. for possession of a loaded handgun at Terminal 2 at LAX," reported a public information officer.
Upon discovery of the weapon, Henrie was immediately arrested at 9.05 am. He spent several hours in detention before being released at just after 3 pm after paying a $10,000 bail fee.
Shortly after the incident, Henrie posted a statement on his social media pages accepting accountability for his actions:
"I take responsibility for the situation at LAX today. I unintentionally brought my legally owned gun which is registered in my name to the airport," he said.
"I am so sorry for any trouble it caused, but I am appreciative of TSA’s efforts in implementing the safety laws that are in place to protect our beautiful country.
"More than anything I am humiliated and embarrassed that this even happened. But I am thankful to the TSA, LAPD and all involved today for their kindness and their professionalism during this process."
Despite his humility, though, the actor did not escape criticism for his actions.
"I’m trying to understand why would you do this, why would you bring a loaded gun in your bag to an airport?" wrote one fan on Instagram.
"I hope you weren’t planning anything. Something bad could have happened. You are a big part of my childhood being a part of WOWP which is something I hold close to me, now I feel like its different, although I understand that you did this. When I found out I felt confused, I’m still trying to come to terms with it."
"Uhhhh. You probably shouldn't f**king own a WEAPON that was made with the intention of killing living beings, if you're careless enough with it to "forget" that you fucking have it with you in things that you're bringing to a gun-free zone," wrote another. "Just another reason why Americans shouldn't own guns. 99% of them simply aren't ready for them"
Modern Family star, Ariel Winter, also made her opinion known.
"So...you didn’t notice the *loaded* gun in your bag when you were packing for the airport?????" she tweeted. "In other words...why was your gun not stored safely in a place where you knew where it was and why in the fuck was it loaded??"
This news comes just days after Henrie announced that he was having his first child with his wife, Maria Cahill Henrie.
"ITS A GIRL ITS A GIRL ITS A GIRL. Im a Poppa!!!!!!!" he wrote in an announcement on Instagram. "Im so overwhelmed with joy I had to share this with you guys. I’m already singing 'I Loved Her First'. I can’t wait to sit her down on a couch and tell her a 9 season story of How I Met Your Mother."
Henrie is set to appear in court on October 1st to learn if he has been charged for the recent offence.
