Rebel Wilson has opened up about being banned from Disneyland over an "illegal" photo.
Now, Disneyland is known to many as the Happiest Place on Earth. But that doesn't mean guests can just come and go as they please. The parks actually have an extensive list of rules to ensure all their visitors are happy (and all their secrets remain, well, just that).
So you can imagine Rebel Wilson's surprise when she got a slap on the wrist and 30-day ban for sharing what she thought was an innocent selfie... that's right, a selfie!
During an interview on The Daily Show with comedian and guest host Hasan Minhaj, the 44-year-old actress revealed that she was banned from her favorite place, Disneyland, for 30 days after breaking one of their rules.
"I did get banned from Disneyland for 30 days because I took a photo inside a secret bathroom, which is illegal, at Disneyland," she explained to Minhaj, who was guest hosting the show.
Fortunately, Disney was still pretty chill about the ban, and actually worked the ban around the Australian star's busy schedule, the actress revealed.
Wilson explained: "They called me up and said, 'Rebel what 30 days did you not want to come to Disneyland because you’ll be filming a movie or something?'"
"That's how you know you're a celebrity," Minhaj responded, referring to the slight leniency in the ruling.
"Disneyland has like Met Gala rules, where they’re like 'no photos here,' but then you break it and they’re like 'look, we have to punish you, but looking at your Google calendar, what month works for you?'" she revealed, going on to explain that she picked a busy month of June to serve her "punishment".
Though the Bridesmaids star didn't say where or when this little incident took place, Disney fanatics were quick to work out that it probably happened at the VIP Club 33.
As reported by Walt Disney World Magazine, Club 33 is an exclusive members-only club for elite Disney guests. How elite? Well, let's just say members must deposit a $60,000 initial invitation investment along with $25,000 in annual dues, according to the magazine.
According to Thrillist, there is a 10-year waiting list to even be considered for the joint, which sits on Royal Street, squeezed between the shops of New Orleans Square, right around the corner from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.
The outlet went on to describe the club as a "mystery" that "hinges on rumors."
Elsewhere during the interview, Wilson also joked about the "gang" culture at Disneyland when discussing groups of adults who wear matching outfits to the venue.
"There's actually gangs at Disneyland," she told the host. "There are like these gangs of adults, and these cool names like the White Rabbits or Children of Thanos, Coco Locos. They have all these gangs, and sometimes they wear matching vests and they walk around and, like, do gang stuff inside Disneyland.
"One of the initiations [to join a gang] was you had to steal the apple from the Snow White ride, and the apple kept getting stolen so many times they had to make it a hologram. Not a physical apple anymore. But don’t ask me how I know about Disneyland gangs, because I will not say."
While Wilson claimed that she wasn't "obsessed" with Disneyland, she revealed that it does play a crucial role in her life.
"It’s just, I go there every weekend and like every important holiday and every important life event," she said... not that obsessed then.
When speaking of her proposal to her long-term partner Ramona Agruma - which, of course, took place at Disneyland last year - the actress revealed that she pulled a few strings with the CEO Bob Iger before planning the special occasion.
"He's the big, big boss. And I thought, well, if he says yes, then it was meant to be, and I was meant to propose that day at Disneyland," Wilson told Drew Barrymore earlier this week on an episode of her talk show.
"I had to get special permission to get a special area roped off and get the topiary trees in, and you know I had a violinist playing like Disney classics, and it was very, it was really romantic," she said. "I did go to the big boss to get permission."
The 44-year-old shared some snapshots of the magical moment on Instagram.
"She [Agruma] said yes. And I was like, 'Do I get down on one knee? What do I do?' And I was like, 'I may as well.' So I got down on one knee, and then she like, what you're doing, goes, 'Well, you can't be the only one on your knee,' so she got down as well," Wilson recalled.
"So it was such a huge thing in my life, and then we went on this new ride, and I go, 'Hang on, I just have to, like,' and I literally collapsed on the floor for five minutes," she added. "And then I go, 'Okay, I'm good. Let's get churros and move on.'"
Disneyland truly is the Happiest Place on Earth (just don't take photos in the bathrooms!)

In a recent appearance on The Daily Show with guest host and comedian Hasan Minhaj, Hollywood actress Rebel Wilson dished out a tale of how she was shown the 'not-so-Magical-Kingdom' exit from Disneyland for an unexpected reason - yes, for taking a selfie!
The Pitch Perfect star found herself facing a temporary ban from her cherished Disneyland. How long, you ask? Well, she got the boot for 30 days, after committing a cardinal sin within the park's walls.
As she confessed to Minhaj: "I took a photo inside a secret bathroom, which is illegal, at Disneyland." (It would seem that Disney's rules are as enchanting as their fairy tales.)
But there's a silver lining as even the ban came with a touch of Tinseltown benefits. The ever-jovial Wilson chuckled: "They called me up and said, 'Rebel, what 30 days did you not want to come to Disneyland because you’ll be filming a movie or something?'"
The exchange left Minhaj quipping about the leniency shown towards celebrities, while Wilson revealed the surprisingly adaptable nature of Disneyland's penalties, likening it to "Met Gala rules."
She joked: "Disneyland has like Met Gala rules, where they’re like 'no photos here,' but then you break it and they’re like 'look, we have to punish you, but looking at your Google calendar, what month works for you?'"
She eventually chose June as her month of absence.
Fans and Disney devotees speculated that the high-profile selfie might have taken place in the ultra-exclusive Club 33 - an institution requiring members to shell out tens of thousands of dollars for entry and renewal.
Check out the interview below:Adding another sprinkle of humor to the interview, Wilson shared some surprising revelations about Disneyland's "gang" culture - groups of adults roaming the park in matching outfits.
"There are like these gangs of adults, and these cool names like the White Rabbits or Children of Thanos, Coco Locos," she said. "They have all these gangs, and sometimes they wear matching vests and they walk around and, like, do gang stuff inside Disneyland.
"One of the initiations [to join a gang] was you had to steal the apple from the Snow White ride, and the apple kept getting stolen so many times they had to make it a hologram. Not a physical apple anymore. But don’t ask me how I know about Disneyland gangs, because I will not say."
While claiming not to be "obsessed" with Disneyland, Wilson admitted that the venue marked significant milestones in her life - including her proposal to long-term partner Ramona Agruma, orchestrated in true fairy-tale style. She even shared her journey of seeking special permission from Disney CEO Bob Iger for the occasion.
As Wilson reminisced about the proposal, she shared: "I had a violinist playing like Disney classics, and it was very, it was really romantic." The memorable day was topped off with a ride and, of course, some iconic Disneyland churros.
Pictures of the unforgettable moment were shared on Wilson’s Instagram, capturing the joyous occasion. Here's to a happily ever after for the delighted couple!

Rebel Wilson has lashed out at a Hollywood star who allegedly "threatened her" when she revealed her plans to out his behavior in her new book.
Wilson, renowned for her candidness, disclosed that she has dedicated an entire chapter in her forthcoming book to tell all about her encounters with what she terms a "massive a**hole" in the entertainment industry.
The 44-year-old actress, known for her roles in hits like Pitch Perfect, explained all on her Instagram story, stating: "Now the a**hole is trying to threaten me.
"He’s hired a crisis PR manager and lawyers. He’s trying to stop press coming out about my new book. But the book WILL come out and you will all know the truth."
Wilson's decision to name the individual in question has evidently stirred a response from the concerned party, who has reportedly taken legal action to deter her from further disclosures.
In an earlier discussion about the chapter addressing her experiences in Hollywood, the Australian comedian explained how her encounter with the unnamed star led her to adopt a strict "no a**holes" policy regarding future professional engagements, per News.com.au.
"When I first came to Hollywood, people were like, 'Yeah, I have a no a**holes policy that means, like, I don’t work with a**holes'. I was like, 'Yeah, I mean, that sounds sensible and logical,'" Wilson said.
"Because I worked with a massive a**hole, and, yeah, now I definitely have an a**holes policy."
In other Wilson-related news, in the summer of 2023, she explained that she had been "banned" from Disneyland over a photo she took in the restroom.
The actress found herself facing a 30-day ban from the theme park after committing what she described as a "cardinal sin" within its walls - taking a photo in a secret bathroom.
Confessing her misdemeanor on The Daily Show with guest host and comedian Hasan Minhaj, Wilson said: "I took a photo inside a secret bathroom, which is illegal, at Disneyland."
It seems like Disney was pretty cool with everything though, as Wilson went on: "They called me up and said, 'Rebel, what 30 days did you not want to come to Disneyland because you’ll be filming a movie or something?'"
She said: "Disneyland has like Met Gala rules, where they’re like 'no photos here,' but then you break it and they’re like 'look, we have to punish you, but looking at your Google calendar, what month works for you?'"
Fans and Disney enthusiasts speculated that the infamous selfie might have been taken in the ultra-exclusive Club 33, an elite institution requiring hefty membership fees for entry.

Rebel Wilson has irked some of her followers after a post that showed her attending Beyonce's concert in Dubai - sparking claims that the actress is being hypocritical regarding LGBTQ+ rights.
Wilson, 42, is best known for her roles in the Pitch Perfect movie series where she burst onto the scene as "Fat Amy" before going on to star in many comedic roles.
In June 2022, the Australian actress came out as a member of the LGBTQI+ community during pride month and took to Instagram to introduce her girlfriend Ramona Agruma to the world.
Posting on Instagram at the time, the star said: "I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess."
Now engaged to Agruma, Wilson has been criticized online following her attendance at the grand opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai.
As per reports, relations between same-sex couples are illegal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and can result in imprisonment for those cause engaging in sexual activity.
Under Sharia law, homosexuality can be punishable by death but "there is no evidence that this has been used against LGBT people."
Article 177 of the Dubai Criminal Code criminalizes "sodomy", with a penalty of ten years behind bars.
Given that LGBTQ+ rights are still being hard fought for in the UAE, fans have accused Wilson of being hypocritical due to her appearance in the region.
Many fans questioned why the star was promoting tourism in the area as a member of the LGBTQ+ community herself.
The opening of the hotel also involved a concert by Beyonce, who was reportedly paid $34 million for her appearance, per the Daily Mail.
"Atlantis The Royal is BEYond! What a weekend with BEY!", Wilson exclaimed on Instagram, before being met with critical comments.
One person said: "Human rights? LGBTQ? Unfollowing now," and a second added: "Or hear me out, I’d rather not go support a company where it’s illegal for me to exist and I could be thrown in jail"
"Aren’t You a member of LGBTQ+ community? The hypocrisy of it All," a third said, with a fourth concluding: "Strange place to go and promote when you’re in a same sex relationship."
It would appear that Wilson's trip to Dubai hasn't sat well with some fans, with the star yet to respond to the criticism.
Other events that have faced criticism include the 2022 World Cup which was held in Qatar, which also faces similar LGBTQ and human rights issues.
David Beckham also came under fire for being the face of Qatar Tourism ahead of the games, with several stars including UK comedian Joe Lycett condemning his choice to promote tourism in the country.

A disgruntled Disney fan claims that he's been issued a life-long ban from Disney World.
TikTok user Jason Jeter, who also goes by the handle @showmelovejete on the platform, alleged in a video posted on Tuesday, May 4, that he was permanently banned from the theme park in Orlando, Florida, after being accused of trespassing.
Jeter recently uploaded the following video on the subject of his alleged ban:In a video that the self-described Disney fanatic shared with his 1 million followers, Jeter alleges that security at the theme park circled his car while he was parked outside the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
He tells his followers in the clip:
"The worst happened. As soon as I get out of the car, Orange County Police Department pulls up.
"[They said] 'Hi, Jason Jeter, we have a trespass warning for you from Disney. You’re no longer allowed on the property.'"
Displaying a yellow Orange County Sheriff's Department trespass warning, Jeter then adds:
"Then they’re like: 'hey, also, just to add insult to injury, It’s a lifetime ban. I can never go back to Disney. Ever."
The clip instantly became a hit on the app, racking up over 6 million views and 31,000 comments as of the time of writing.
In another video posted to his TikTok on March 19, titled "I Got Fired From Disney", Jeter claims that he used to work as an employee at the park, but lost his job back in March after posting two controversial videos to his channel.
The TikTok user says his manager terminated his contract after he received an email from Walt Disney Company executives, who took issue with his Disney-themed content.
The first clip shows him entering a Disney wedding venue at the Grand Floridian Resort, closed to the public at the time of recording.
Meanwhile, the second clip apparently involved Jeter promoting a bottle company by filling one of their containers with water from a fountain at the park and then drinking from it.
According to Inside The Magic, the social media user made a similar video about drinking from Universal Studios Orlando's water fountains, but TikTok repeatedly deleted it from the social media platform.
He then subsequently uploaded the video to YouTube, but the footage has since been removed from the platform.

Rebel Wilson has received an apology from the columnist of a newspaper which he said had been planning to "out" her before she decided to come out on her own terms.
Last week, the 42-year-old Australian actress announced to her 11 million followers on Instagram that she is in a relationship with a woman - fashion designer Ramona Agruma.
"I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess," wrote the Pitch Perfect star, before adding the hashtag "Love is love".
A couple of days later, Andrew Hornery - columnist for The Sydney Morning Herald - piped up to comment on how Wilson had announced her same-sex relationship.
He appeared to call her out for coming out on her own terms rather than waiting for the newspaper to do a story on her new romance.
In an article published on Saturday, Hornery explained said Wilson was given two days to comment on her new relationship before the paper put out an article essentially outing her.
The article has since been removed for the site.
"In a perfect world, 'outing' same-sex celebrity relationships should be a redundant concept in 2022. Love is love, right?" Hornery had written in the since-removed article. "As Rebel Wilson knows, we do not live in a perfect world."
Hornery continued: "So, it was an abundance of caution and respect that this media outlet emailed Rebel Wilson's representatives on Thursday morning, giving her two days to comment on her new relationship with another woman, LA leisure wear designer Ramona Agruma, before publishing a single word.
"Big mistake. Wilson opted to gazump the story, posting about her new 'Disney Princess' on Instagram early Friday morning, the same platform she had previously used to brag about her handsome ex-boyfriend, wealthy American beer baron Jacob Busch."
The following day, Wilson referred to the situation as a "very hard" one.
A Twitter user, Kate Doak, had tweeted a link to Hornery's article, writing: "So apparently it wasn't @RebelWilson 's choice to come out... The @smh / @theage have admitted to giving her a heads up 2 days in advance that they were going to 'out' her. What's worse, openly gay men at the Sydney Morning Herald were involved in this."
Wilson responded to Doak's tweet, writing: "Thanks for your comments, it was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace."
Presumably in response to the tweet, Hornery wrote another column on Monday apologizing for how he handled the whole situation. The piece was titled: I made mistakes over Rebel Wilson, and will learn from them.
He wrote: "I genuinely regret that Rebel has found this hard. That was never my intention. But I see she has handled it all with extraordinary grace. As a gay man, I’m well aware of how deeply discrimination hurts."
Hornery went on to say: "My email was never intended to be a threat but to make it clear I was sufficiently confident with my information and to open a conversation. It is not the Herald’s business to 'out' people and that is not what we set out to do. But I understand why my email has been seen as a threat. The framing of it was a mistake."
He ended the piece with an apology.
