Jennifer Lawrence has finally shut down the cheating rumors that linked her to Chris Pratt, after his ex-wife allegedly confronted him.
The actress was dragged into the spotlight when Pratt split from his wife, Anna Faris, in 2017. Fans quickly pointed the finger at Lawrence, claiming she was the reason the couple ended up divorcing.
Speaking to KISS FM while promoting her 2018 film, Red Sparrow, Lawrence laughed it off. “I never had an affair with Chris Pratt on Passengers,” she claimed. “That’s a good one…”
She also added: “I mean they got a divorce like two years later and everybody was like [shouting] Jennifer Lawrence! And I was like what the… what I’m in Montreal two years later.”
The speculation first began in 2016 while Lawrence and Pratt were filming their sci‑fi romance Passengers. Paparazzi shots of the co‑stars laughing together on set further fueled tabloid stories about an off‑screen fling, despite Pratt being in a long-term relationship.
Pratt and Faris announced their separation in August 2017 after eight years of marriage.
Faris later revealed just how much the rumors affected her. In her memoir, Unqualified, she wrote that her publicist warned her in advance: “‘Anna, listen, there are going to be paparazzi all over them. There are going to be shots of them laughing together on their way to set. There are going to be stories circulating, and you have to brace yourself for this.’”
Even knowing the stories were false, Faris admitted they cut deep. “I didn’t want to pay attention to the stories but I couldn’t block them all out, either,” she wrote. “I’d always taken pride in our relationship, and the coverage, even though it was just false rumors, was making me feel insecure.”
She also claimed that she talked to Pratt about how hurt she felt. “Eventually, Chris came around and understood why it felt s**ty.”
Faris made it clear she never blamed Lawrence. “Jennifer and I really are friendly, and she was apologetic even though she didn’t need to be, because she hadn’t done anything wrong,” she wrote.
“She’s awesome, but of course it’s hurtful and also embarrassing when people are saying your husband is cheating on you – even if it’s patently untrue. You still feel, and look, like a fool.”
During her radio interview, Lawrence also poked fun at how often her name gets tied to older Hollywood stars, even quipping about being linked to Brad Pitt. Saying: “It was super flattering but at one point I was just like ‘dating Brad Pitt’. We were having like ‘secret rendezvous’. You know that was weird.”
Lawrence, who has previously dated Nicholas Hoult and Chris Martin, made it clear the Pratt rumors were just as baseless.
Despite the divorce, Faris and Pratt have stayed on good terms. Pratt even wrote the foreword for Faris’s book. “We’re great and he’s amazing. It was so kind of him to do that. We’re great friends and always will be,” Faris said on Live! With Kelly and Ryan.
She added in another interview: “We’ll always have each other and be incredible friends. There is still so much laughter in our lives together, and he is so proud of me, still.”
