Jennifer Lawrence was forced to admit she was 'having sex with director' after being asked if she understood movie she was in

Jennifer Lawrence has admitted that she didn’t even understand the movie Mother! even though she was "sleeping" with the director, Darren Aronofsky.

The Oscar-winning actress got brutally honest about the confusion surrounding the 2017 psychological horror, which left audiences and critics baffled alike with its heavy symbolism and narrative.

And while fans scratched their heads trying to decode it, Lawrence herself was just as lost - despite being romantically involved with the man behind the camera.

Lawrence Revealed That She Was "Sleeping" With The Director

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Lawrence didn’t hold back when asked how much of the film she understood on a scale of one to totally confused.

“I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director," she confessed.

"So I had CliffsNotes. So… five? Or a four,” she admitted.

“But if anybody needs any tips on understanding their films, you know what to do!” When Cohen cheekily responded, “F**k the director?”, Lawrence laughed and replied: “Yeah!”

Mother!, which starred Lawrence opposite Javier Bardem and featured Domhnall Gleeson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kristen Wiig, earned a 68% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to the synopsis, the film is about "a young woman spends her days renovating the Victorian mansion that she lives in with her husband in the countryside.

"When a stranger knocks on the door one night, he becomes an unexpected guest in their home.

"Later, his wife and two children also arrive to make themselves welcome.

"Terror soon strikes when the beleaguered wife tries to figure out why her husband is so seemingly friendly and accommodating to everyone but her."

Dating the director? "Not healthy," says Lawrence

In a separate interview with Adam Sandler for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, the Hunger Games star revealed that the film didn’t just puzzle her - it complicated her love life.

“Dating the director is different,” she said.

“We’d be on the [press] tour together. I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie."

“He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about, and I get it. It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it," she added.

While she tried to be supportive, Lawrence admitted she was doing “double duty” as a partner and star - until she reached her breaking point.

“Can I please, for the love of God, not think about Mother! for one second?” she recalled thinking.

It got worse when Aronofsky started reading reviews aloud. “I finally was just like, ‘It’s not healthy. Neither of us are doing it because if I read it, I start getting defensive.’ Especially because it’s my man,” she said.

Despite the tension, Lawrence was proud of what they created, even if it divided viewers: “Some people hate it, and the people who hate it really hate it.

"But it’s nothing that needs to be defended, and if I read a negative review, I just feel defensive.”

Lawrence and Aronofsky broke up just two months after Mother!'s release.

Now 35, the Red Sparrow star has moved on from both the film and the director. She’s happily married to art dealer Cooke Maroney and shares two kids with him.
