Piers Morgan has hit out at Jimmy Kimmel after the long-time host was canceled for his comments about Charlie Kirk.
The long-running television host used his monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to question how Republicans were responding to Kirk’s death, making pointed remarks about the political alignment of the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson.
“The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his Monday night (September 15) broadcast.
He doubled down the following evening, stating: “Many in MAGA-land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.”
Piers Morgan Accuses Jimmy Kimmel Of Being A "Liar"
Taking to social media, Morgan wrote: "Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA.
“This caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers. Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?”
In a later post, he said: "REMINDER: Jimmy Kimmel has celebrated endless conservative stars’ cancellations… with savage glee."
Celebrity backlash: “This isn’t right”
While conservative circles praised the suspension, a number of celebrities and entertainers pushed back — accusing networks of bowing to political pressure.
Rosie O’Donnell posted a photo of Kimmel on Instagram with the caption: “This is unacceptable - f*** this fascist administration and corrupt corporate executives - bowing to the orange monster - America is no more.”
Comedian Wanda Sykes shared a video on the platform, revealing she had been scheduled to appear on the show the night it was pulled.
“Let’s see. He didn’t end the Ukraine war or solve Gaza within his first week. But he did end freedom of speech within his first year. Hey, for those of you who pray, now’s the time to do it. Love you, Jimmy,” she said.
Ben Stiller took to X (formerly Twitter) with a simple statement: “This isn’t right.” Actor Sophia Bush echoed the sentiment: “The First Amendment doesn’t exist in America anymore. Period. Fascism is here and it’s chilling.”
Trump cheers the cancellation
President Trump continued celebrating the decision on Truth Social: “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED.
“Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.”
He then took aim at other late-night hosts, adding: “That leaves Jimmy [Fallon] and Seth [Meyers], two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!!"
Is Jimmy Kimmel fired?
Despite the show being off-air, sources close to Kimmel have clarified that he has not been fired — at least not yet.
ABC executives are reportedly planning to meet with him soon to determine next steps.
