Michael Keaton has been slammed for his reaction to Charlie Kirk's assassination, with some calling him a "lowlife".
Kirk, who was known for his passionate stances on conservative issues and outspoken opposition to gun control, was tragically gunned down during a campus speech.
Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, has been charged in connection with the crime, facing multiple charges, including murder.
Prosecutors have already indicated that they will seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted.
Michael Keaton's Remarks on the "Irony" of Kirk’s Death
Keaton, who was attending the Investigative Reporters and Editors' 50th anniversary gala on September 15, made a statement about Kirk’s death that quickly caught the attention of social media users.
The Pennsylvania-born actor remarked on the “irony” of Kirk's death, given his pro-gun stance and frequent debates against gun control, per the Independent.
“Before we start to get into the meat of this thing, I’m going to take a minute to say that, regardless of how I probably — not probably — have disagreed with many things he said, Charlie Kirk leaves behind two kids and a wife,” Keaton began, acknowledging the tragic loss for Kirk’s family.
“You gotta remember that. Because in the end, shooting people will never answer anything, and the irony that he was killed with a gun is unbelievable.”
Despite starting with a message of sympathy, Keaton’s comments quickly drew criticism from Kirk’s supporters, many of whom felt that the actor was using the tragedy as an opportunity to make a political statement.
Online reactions were swift and harsh, with some calling Keaton “a moron” and “garbage” for the remark.
One user said: “Michael Keaton becomes the latest Hollywood star to mock Charlie Kirk's assassination. Oh, Michael, how you have disappointed me, just like all your Hollywood low-life friends.”
Another commenter accused Keaton of hypocrisy, writing: “The only irony is that far left subhumans who scream for gun control keep using guns to hurt innocent law-abiding Americans. Hypocrite.”
While many disagreed with Keaton’s assessment, some came to his defense, arguing that his comments were not as offensive as they appeared.
One individual noted: “He disagreed with Kirk. Ironic he was shot with a gun. What’s so offensive? Y'all need to take it easy on the cult stuff.”
Jamie Lee Curtis Breaks Down Over Charlie Kirk’s Death Despite Political Differences
Jamie Lee Curtis also expressed her feelings about the loss of Charlie Kirk, though her response was marked by a deep emotional reaction and a significant reflection on faith, despite their divergent political views.
During an appearance on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, Curtis fought back tears as she acknowledged Kirk’s death and offered her thoughts on his strong Christian faith.
The actress, 66, mistakenly referred to the late Kirk as “Charlie Crist” during the emotional segment.
When Maron quickly corrected her, Curtis explained that the confusion came from the association she made between the names "Crist" and "Christ," reflecting her understanding of Kirk’s deep religious beliefs.
"I’m going to bring something up with you just because it’s front of mind. Charlie Crist was killed two days ago," Curtis began, before being corrected.
She continued: "I just call him Crist, I think, because of Christ, because of his deep belief."
Despite their significant political differences - Curtis expressed disagreement with Kirk on “almost every point” - she emphasized that she admired his faith.
“I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith," she said, clearly moved.
"Even though I find what his ideas were abhorrent to me, I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith, and I hope whatever ‘connection to God’ means, that he felt it.”
