A super flower moon is set to illuminate our skies tonight.

To put how amazing this is into context, per iNews, a super moon can appear to have a diameter that's around 14 percent greater than your average full moon, so it really is a sight worth seeing.

Relive the historic moment Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon:

The super flower moon gets its name because, simply put, it appears around the time of blossoming flowers (AKA right now).

"Going by the seasons, as the second full Moon of spring, the Native American tribes of the northeastern United States called this the Flower Moon, as flowers are abundant this time of year in most of these areas," NASA said.

"Other names include the Corn Planting Moon or the Milk Moon."

When a moon is at its closest point to Earth, it is at what's known as the perigee, however, it's a relatively common phenomenon and what's happening tonight is the last in a trilogy that began with March's full moon.

Tonight, the supermoon will be visible in the sky, and according to iNews, the best time to see the supermoon is at 8.45 pm, which is when the moon will be rising.

The super flower moon will be visible in the sky until about 6.10 am, so there's plenty of time to catch a glimpse of the phenomenon.

To see the biggest moon possible, it's recommended that you look east shortly after the super flower moon has risen.

"When the moon is near the horizon, it can look unnaturally large when viewed through trees, buildings, or other foreground objects," NASA said.

"The effect is an optical illusion, but that fact doesn’t take away from the experience."

However, the super flower moon is not the only celestial phenomenon taking place at the moment, and you should also keep your eyes peeled for the Eta Aquariids meteor shower.
