At least two people have lost their lives after a fatal shooting and a house fire also left three children missing in Arizona.
The Tuscon Police Department said a gunman was shot after he killed a neighbor, injured three first responders and a bystander in a deadly rampage, per ABC News.
The charred remains of another unidentified person were found inside the home and "two or three" children who lived there remain missing.
Police chief Chris Magnus said during a press conference that the "horrific" incident took place in three different locations in the downtown area on Sunday, July 19.
Watch a full news report about the incident below:Dispatchers first received a 911 call informing them of a house fire on the 2100 block of East Irene Vista.
A second call was received around the same time about a medical emergency at the nearby Quincy Douglas Park.
Emergency services were greeted by a 35-year-old man at the scene who pulled up in a silver SUV alongside the ambulance before opening fire.
The ambulance driver was shot in the head and remains in a critical condition, per The Sun.
A female EMT who was sitting in the passenger's seat, meanwhile, was shot in the arm, but she is in a stable condition.
The gunman fled the scene in his car, and emergency assistance was called for by the female EMT, who went on to describe the gunman.
As the gunman fled the scene, he encountered an eight-year veteran of the police department, Magnus revealed.
"As one of the officers drives up the street, he sees the suspect in the vehicle and the suspect sees him," he said. "The suspect then attempted to ram the officer... disabling the police car."
The suspect opened fire on the officer when he stepped out of his car, and this fire was returned, which is what resulted in his critical injury.
He was taken into custody before being transported to a hospital, where, the Sun reports, he remains critically injured.
The "badly charred" remains of an unknown victim were found at the home, and it was then discovered that three children who lived there are missing.
Police are now reaching out to family, friends, and neighbors in a bid to find them.
Magnus described the situation as "extremely complicated."
"This is highly tragic, really horrific with many unknowns," he continued.
"This is a really horrific incident and our hearts go out obviously to those who are concerned about their loved ones with more serious injuries. We just don't know."

Five children have tragically been killed in a house fire in Arizona after reportedly being left home alone.
The incident occurred in the 400 block of Anna Circle in Bullhead City in north-western Arizona near the Arizona-Nevada border at around 5PM on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the fierce blaze at the two-story duplex but the young victims, who were all aged between two and 13 years old, were unable to escape.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released, but police confirmed they were aged two, four, five, 11, and 13, with four of them being siblings while the fifth was a relative.
Emily Fromelt, spokesperson for the Bullhead City Police Department, confirmed that all the children were related, with four of them being siblings and all five lived in the duplex, according to the Daily Mail.
Police added that there were no adults at home at the time of the devastating fire and there were no survivors.
The cause of the fire is as yet unknown and it is being investigated by the city's police and fire departments, as well as the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The statement added: "This is an ongoing investigation being handled by the Bullhead City Police Department, with assistance from the Bullhead City Fire Department, Lake Havasu City Fire Department and ATF Fire Investigators."
Pictures and videos shared by eyewitnesses showed firefighters attempting to control the blaze as smoke billowed around them.
Other angles showed the charred window frames of the home as the fire blazed out of the roof of the property.
There is currently no further comment on the circumstances of the fire, with the investigation being currently underway.
In August, six people were found dead in another tragic house fire when a home exploded in western Pennsylvania, destroying three structures and damaging at least a dozen more.
The explosion happened shortly before 10.30AM on August 12, and the bodies of four adults and one child were recovered, according to Plum Borough Police Chief Lanny Conley.
Footage of the explosion and the aftermath saw debris flying through the air and coating the surrounding area in Plum, near Pittsburgh.
In September it was determined that the explosion originated inside the home as the Allegheny County fire marshal’s office ruled out any potential outside factors including pipelines and wells, as well as other utilities.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, however, the property is being released back to its owners according to a press release.
The house and two others nearby were so badly damaged in the blast that hey must be demolished, and 10 others were deemed not safe for residents to return to in the weeks afterward.
All of the victims were found at the home, with officials stating one was found outside a garage, four were in the basement, while the sixth was found in the back yard and was taken to a nearby trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries days later.

Officials in Chattanooga, Tennessee, have confirmed that three people have been killed following a shooting early Sunday.
As reported by CNN, gunshots were fired outside of a nightclub just before 2:45AM.
Spokesperson for the Chattanooga Police Department Jeremy Eames revealed that three people had died and a further 14 injured as a result of the incident. Fourteen of the victims were hit by bullets and the other three were struck by vehicles attempting to flee the scene.
Two of the deaths were the result of gunshot wounds and one from being hit by a vehicle, police have said.
More on this story below:When officers arrived on the scene, they found multiple victims and started to provide medical aid.
Per The Independent, Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy revealed that one of the victims was a juvenile.
Chief Murphy added that the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident that involved multiple shooters and multiple firearms. No motive for the attack has been established.
Officials have not identified any of the suspects or victims as of this writing. Additionally, no suspects are currently in custody.
In response to this incident - the second major shooting to occur in Chattanooga in as many weekends - Mayor Tim Kelly told reporters: "I'm tired of standing in front of you talking about guns and bodies."
Kelly also tweeted to his followers: "There's a lot we don't know about what happened this morning, but what we do know is that there are families whose lives have been shattered because once again, we had people deciding to resolve their issues with firearms.
"Ginny and I are grieving and praying for the families of those who lost their lives and for those who were injured as a result of this act of violence.
"Our city will not tolerate people who feel they are beyond the law. While my administration is working hard to address the root causes of gun violence, we are also committed to ensuring those who commit acts of violence are held accountable."
The news comes as the debate around gun crime continues to grow in the US.
Over the weekend, it was reported that another mass shooting left three people dead and a further 11 injured in South Philadelphia.
Additionally, the nation is still mourning the catastrophic loss of life in the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas, which left 19 children between the ages of nine and 11, as well as two teachers. This came less than two weeks after 10 people were killed after a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.

Following the devastating fire that claimed the lives of five children, it has emerged that the father was out Christmas shopping for his kids at the time of the incident.
As previously reported, the incident unfolded at the 400 block of Anna Circle in Bullhead City, located in northwestern Arizona near the Arizona-Nevada border, at approximately 5:00PM on Saturday.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, a two-story duplex engulfed in a fierce blaze. Despite their efforts, the young victims, aged between two and 13 years old, were tragically unable to escape the inferno.
It was revealed that four of the children were siblings, while the fifth was a relative. Emily Fromelt, spokesperson for the Bullhead City Police Department, confirmed that all five victims resided in the duplex, and it was reported that there were no adults on the property when the fire broke out, per the Daily Mail.
As reported by BBC News, new details have revealed that the father of four of the children had been away for approximately 2.5 hours, as he did some Christmas shopping and ran grocery errands.
"The children's father reported to investigators that he was gone for approximately 2.5 hours to buy groceries and Christmas gifts," the Bullhead City police said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire originated in the downstairs entranceway, rendering it nearly impossible for the children to escape the home.
Tragically, all five victims were found in the same upstairs bedroom, as the fire had ascended the home's only staircase, obstructing their route to safety.
Witnesses recounted the frantic efforts of neighbors, who brought hoses and ladders in a desperate attempt to combat the flames. Patrick O'Neal, a witness, described the scene, saying: "We pulled the garage door open, there was guys pulling stuff out... The closer we got to the door there was smoke starting to come into the garage and choking people out."
The neighbors were unaware that anyone was inside the home, and would have attempted to rescue the children if they had known, O'Neal added.
In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the grieving parents.
Kilee Stockton, the organizer, wrote: "On December 16th, 2023, a tragedy occurred in the 400 block of Anna Circle in Bullhead City, AZ. My dear friend Nikki lost her children in a house fire."
The description further explained that the funds raised were intended to help the affected parents with any necessary expenses.
At the time of writing, the fundraiser has gained just over $16,000 from 331 donations.
A vigil is scheduled to take place in a local park on Wednesday night to commemorate the victims. Investigations into the cause of the fire remain ongoing.
Our thoughts remain with all those affected by this tragedy.
Five officers from the Phoenix Police Department have been shot and hospitalized.
As reported by ABC News, the officers were shot during a barricade situation at a house in the area of 54th Ave and Elwood Street early on Friday morning.
The five officers were transported to a nearby hospital. Their conditions are still unknown.
Additionally, the department said that a woman was also critically injured during the early morning incident.
A tweet posted to the Phoenix Police Twitter page, read: "Phoenix PD is working on a situation involving a barricaded subject inside a house. 1 person and several officers have been injured."
ABC15 News states the officers were targeted while responding to a shooting.
The outlet reports that one officer was shot "multiple times" while approaching the home.
Somebody from inside the house then placed a baby - who is reportedly okay - outside of the home. When an officer went to attend to the child, they were also shot by the suspect.
Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams says the officers are currently being treated for the injuries.
"If I seem upset, I am," Williams added.
Chief Williams asked people to keep the officers at the top of their thoughts and prayers, and stressed that the incident is a reminder of the dangers of the service.
The suspect then barricaded themselves in the hope. The scene is reportedly still active and people in the area have been told to stay away.
