Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer has made a public plea to President Trump.
The 36-year-old is facing a retrial after being accused of killing her three young children in January 2023, following a mistrial in her murder case.
Clancy admitted strangling her children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and 18-month-old Callan, with exercise bands, but denies the deaths amounted to murder.
A jury of nine women and three men was unable to reach a verdict on whether she was guilty of murder or manslaughter, leading Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial at Plymouth Superior Court on Friday afternoon.
Clancy’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, has publicly asked Trump to consider pardoning his client in his first interview since the trial ended.
Speaking on Good Morning America on Tuesday morning, Reddington said: "Mr President, I hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what's been through, and consider a pardon."
He also referenced the 80-year-old's previous comments about the case, saying: "I'd like to say that perhaps Donald Trump, who felt compelled to speak out about this case."
The plea came days after Trump spoke about Clancy’s trial at the White House on Friday, describing the situation as a "horrible tragedy," per Daily Mail.
"It's a shame. It's a horrible tragedy. I see what's happened and it looks like it's a hung jury," he said. "I think the judge has said it's going to be a mistrial, so there's going to be another trial."
"It's a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing."
"Can't be worse. But you'll find out what the price to pay is. There'll be a price. It's going to be mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they're going to go through another trial," he added.
