What happened if you were watching the news when suddenly, you heard shots ring out live on air?
This was a real experience for people watching a breakfast TV show in Virginia, when a disgruntled former colleague opened fire during the middle of a broadcast.
What's worse, the killer had actually uploaded a video that showed his point of view as he killed the two journalists at close range in 2015.
Reporter Allison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were just at the start of their prospective journalism careers when tragedy struck - but what caused the incident?
Parker and Ward were up early to film a breakfast TV interview about tourism at a local shopping centre on the morning that they were killed.
The two had headed to a shopping centre in Virginia, near Smith Mountain Lake, where Parker was due to interview Vicki Gardner, who was the only survivor of the attack.
Parker and Ward were both killed by Vester Lee Flanagan II, who was known professionally as Bryce Williams, who had previously been a co-worker at the same TV station.
However, Williams had previously been fired for disruptive conduct. He filmed the entire attack and later uploaded it to social media.
Alison Parker was beginning to conduct her interview when you could hear eight shots fired from the gun Williams was carrying. The camera, worked by Adam Ward, smashed to the floor as Alison Parker's screams could be heard.
Following the attack, WDBJ7, the station that both Parker and Ward worked for, paid tribute to their two co-workers.
It emerged in the days after the attack that Alison Parker was actually engaged to Chris Hunter, an anchor at the station. They had not made their relationship public, but Hunter said they had been "planning their lives" together.
"We didn't share this publicly, but [Alison] and I were very much in love. We just moved in together. I am numb," he shared.
"We were together almost nine months. It was the best nine months of our lives. We wanted to get married. We just celebrated her 24th birthday. She was the most radiant woman I ever met. And for some reason she loved me back. She loved her family, her parents and her brother."
