After seven years, Better Call Saul has come to an end.

(And before we continue, don't worry - this article is SPOILER FREE.)

I think it is safe to say that nobody ever expected Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould's Breaking Bad spin-off about lawyer Saul Goodman to ever come close to the original show.

However, thanks to incredible casting, acting, writing, and directing, Better Call Saul has become a must-watch series (with many fans - including myself - believing it to be better than Breaking Bad.)

Acting as both a prequel and a sequel to Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul explored the lives of two of the original series' most popular characters, Jimmy "Saul Goodman" McGill and Mike Ehrmantraut.

Last week, fans saw Jimmy - now as Cinnabon manager-turned-conman Gene Takovic - finally have his past catch up to him, as Marion altered the police that a wanted man was in her home.

Fans had plenty of questions going into the finale; Would Jimmy/Gene survive? Would he finally go to jail? Will Kim return to help him and they both live happily ever after as Viktor and Giselle?

And although we won't be spoiling anything about the finale in this article, viewers were clearly impressed, hailing the final episode as the "best finale ever".

One Twitter user wrote: "i fully expected the finale to leave me feeling hollow and empty but i feel very at peace with how it all ended. what an ending. what a show. artistically and thematically and narratively stunning from start to finish. i miss you already better call saul."

A second fan added: "The series finale of BETTER CALL SAUL is one of the best finales I've ever seen. It works as a finale to itself and to BREAKING BAD, bringing everything full circle. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Vince Gilligan is the absolute best to ever do the thing. Period."

"The Better Call Saul finale was one of the best episodes of television ever made, bravo to everyone involved and thank you for creating one of the best shows of all time," another wrote.

"Better Call Saul is without a doubt, the best TV show I have ever seen. Through sheer talent, skill, and expertise the crew behind this show has crafted this series that is so god damn engaging with the finale being everything that I love about this show," agreed a fourth.

A fifth simply wrote: "Best show ever, best finale ever. #BetterCallSaul."

"Perfect finale. What an incredible saga this has been — truly the end of an era. I’m in awe. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul will stick with me forever. Thank you, sincerely, to everyone who created this," complimented another.

"I can only say that this is the best ending possible for the best series ever. Thanks to Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould for this masterpiece #BetterCallSaul," added one delighted fan.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the finale, series co-creator Peter Gould said: "We don’t really think about it in terms of 'This is a happy ending' or 'This is a sad ending.' Our fervent hope is that it’s a satisfying ending."

He went on to talk about the possibility of returning to the characters in the show, saying: "If we ever did come back to this universe, hopefully we bring a new set of ideas that would enrich it and give us something different."

"One of the things that I’m most proud of about Better Call Saul is that it’s not Breaking Bad. It’s its own animal and, as you pointed out, the ending is certainly very different from Breaking Bad or from El Camino."

"I wouldn’t want to do another chapter in this story without having it stand on its own two feet. So far we don’t have anything and I think we want to try other things," he added.
