An Australian pub owner has gone viral on social media after his unique security procedure was caught on camera.

The fearless landlord is a local legend in the Northern Territory, known as 'King' Kai Hansen.

Amazingly, he was unphased when an 8-foot crocodile started skirting around his Goat Island lodge. Instead of turning and running, Hansen faced down the charging reptile with his weapon of choice - a frying pan.

After giving the croc a few smacks on the head, the animal seemed to reconsider the attack and turned away, rushing back to the water.

The wild moment was caught on camera and quickly began racking up views on social media. While it may be incredibly footage, Hansen told Daily Mail Australia that fighting off a giant reptile with a frying pan wasn't anything too out of the ordinary for him.

"I wouldn't say it's an everyday event, but I've got to stay safe and do what I can," he said.

"When you're driving along in a car and all of a sudden a dog is right in front of you, are you scared, no, you just do what you have to do," the publican continued, adding that in this scenario it all worked out alright. "No one got hurt and the croc got a good lesson."

Hansen went on to recall some of his earlier battles with the saltwater crocodiles who lurk around the area. Back in 2018, his beloved dog Dumb Blonde was eaten by a croc that measured almost 10 feet long.

While battling reptiles may all be a day in the life for Hansen, many people on social media were gobsmacked by the footage and took to the comments section to voice their amazement.

"Who’s crazier? The old man for hitting the gator with a frying pan, or the gator for messing with the old man?" one person tweeted.

Others were quick to note that the bizarre scene would only ever happen in Australia.

"Only in Australia, got to love it," one person tweeted, while another agreed that the scene was "peak Australia."
