Conjoined twins Carmen and Lupita Andrade, 25, have finally opened up about how they keep boundaries in place since Carmen’s marriage to husband Daniel McCormack, 28.
Since the couple got hitched in 2024 after meeting on dating app Hinge in 2020, they have received endless questions about how they navigate intimacy in the presence of Lupita.
Carmen told People Magazine that they respect her sister’s boundaries by 'constantly talking'.
If her sister expresses she is not comfortable with something, such as cuddling or a conversation topic, 'we just respect that', Carmen claims.
Laidback Lupita added, “I have headphones and a phone. I don’t care.”
Carmen also explained that she is 'not a very overly affectionate person that way.'
“I think there's a certain societal expectation that there needs to be affection the entire time within a relationship,” she said.
“All we do is joke around a lot of the time."
However, the conjoined twin confessed that she does 'feel kind of guilty' about the time she spends with her husband, but they try to find a healthy balance.
The couple often face inappropriate questions from far too curious strangers, asking personal details about intimacy.
Addressing the questions, husband Daniel said: “People are obsessed with sex, you know? And it is just like, frankly, it’s none of your f****** business.”
Carmen added, “I don’t understand why people need to know about my private parts in order [to] humanize us.”
Her sister Lupita also added that she doesn't 'like being asked if I am ever going to love [Daniel].'
She said: "I love him as a brother. That’s about it."
While Lupita was the one to encourage Carmen to pursue a connection with Daniel, she jokes about their first date, teasing: “They were really boring and they talked for hours and they were both very sweaty."
The twins, born in Mexico, have defied doctors' expectations, living far longer than predicted.
While they each have their own heart, lungs, and stomach, they share some ribs, their circulatory system, as well as their digestive and reproductive systems.
Their parents were told that separation surgery could result in serious neurological problems or death, so they opted against it.
Carmen and Lupita share a YouTube channel with over 256k subscribers, and are followed by thousands on separate Instagram accounts, but do not make a sufficient living from social media.
