Vice President Kamala Harris has been roasted online after she appeared to adopt a French twang while in Paris.
As part of her trip to the French capital, Harris visited the Institut Pasteur earlier in the week. She met a number of the institute's scientists and recognized the efforts of the Institut Pasteur's scientific community in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic since the end of 2019.
However, footage of the 57-year-old vice president speaking alongside the scientists - seemingly in a French accent - has led to mockery on social media.
Harris says in the video: "In government, we campaign with 'The Plan.' Uppercase T, uppercase P, 'The Plan'."
She continues: "And then the environment is such we're expected to defend 'The Plan' even when the first time we roll it out there may be some glitches and it's time to re-evaluate and then do it again."
Listen to Kamala Harris' "French accent" below:When the video began making the rounds online, former President Donald Trump's Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, slammed Harris for "humiliating the United States."
"The clip from Vice President Harris is more than embarrassing on the world stage," he told Fox News' Sean Hannity on Wednesday, November 10.
He continued: "Our adversaries watch that and see weakness. They see people who aren’t serious, they see people who aren’t determined - precisely the opposite of what we did for four years."
Hannity certainly wasn't the only one who had less-than-kind things to say about Harris' appearance at the Institut Pasteur.
One Twitter user wrote: "Holy s**t I just watched this and almost spit out my coffee," as another added: "OMG! I am so embarrassed! God help the USA!"
Abigail Marone, press secretary for Sen. Josh Hawley, wrote: "Is she using a FRENCH ACCENT?! I love this episode of Veep."
Fox News commentator Joe Concha added: "There really are no words anymore… #AuRevoir".
In reference to the French animated skunk from Warner Bros' Looney Tunes, Washington Examiner commentator Becket Adams wrote: "I thought we canceled pepe lepew."
