Rick and Morty fans have had to wait a long time for the next season of the hit animated show, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon - and understandably, a lot of people have been left feeling pretty impatient about it all.

However, if you're one of those people who is addicted to that show's mix of mind-bending concepts, bizarre characters, and weird humor, then we have some good news for you.

It turns out that Justin Roiland hasn't just been working on animated comedy. He's also turned his hand to game design, and released a video game that's every bit as weird as you might expect from someone like him.

Check out the trailer for Trover Saves the Universe below:

The 3D platformer's plot is as unusual as the plot of any Rick and Morty episode. The player assumes the role of an unnamed member of an alien species known as the 'Chairorpians' - extraterrestrials who never leave their chairs. The Chairorpian puppeteers the eponymous Trover through a gamepad (much like a real-life one).

The character of Trover is forced to retrieve two dogs, who have been stolen by an evil being named Glorkon the Abstainer, who placed them into his eyeholes in a plot to destroy the universe.

The game was developed by Squanch Games, a studio launched by Roiland, after he was intrigued by the possibilities of an Oculus DK2 headset.  He founded the company in 2014 with Epic Games alumni Tanya Watson, and together they spent the next five years working on the title with a small team of designers.

And people online have been raving about this highly enjoyable game:

Trover Saves the Universe was released on May 31, 2019, for the Playstation 4, and  June 4th, 2019 for the PC. Why not check it out, if you want an alternative to Rick and Morty?
