One woman's search for a parking spot took a turn for the worse over the weekend.
The unassuming driver from Stuttgart, Germany, was looking for a place to park her Smart car on Saturday (October 8) when she mistook an elevator for a spot.
While it may have looked like a nifty place to stop her car, the 38-year-old woman was left regretting her decisions when - around 10:30AM - the doors opened and she was plunged a terrifying 35 feet down the elevator shaft.
The shocking verticle drop left the woman's car upside down - and her trapped inside it.
Miraculously, she was able to climb free of the wreckage and call local firefighters for help. When first responders arrived, they had to abseil down the elevator shaft and strap the driver to a stretcher before hoisting her out of the hole.
Per a report by MailOnline, a spokesperson for Stuttgart Fire Department explained: "The woman was able to climb out of her Smart and make an emergency call with her cell phone."
Meanwhile, Daniel Anand - a press and public relations officer for the fire rescue organization - said that the driver was taken to the hospital after being hauled out of the pit.
"After being rescued from the elevator shaft, the person was handed over to the rescue service and taken to a hospital for further treatment," he said.
With the driver dealt with, emergency services then turned their attention to rescuing her smashed Smart car. After hoisting the vehicle out of the deep shaft, they blocked up the hole with wood and took the elevator out of service in the hopes of preventing any other unsuspecting driver from making the same mistake.
Incredibly, the woman seems to have escaped the ordeal without any injuries. Speaking to Bild newspaper - as translated by MailOnline - she recalled that she was confused over how she had ended up at the bottom of the shaft. But she said she was relatively physically "fine".
"I have no idea how that could have happened. Physically, I'm fine again," she told the outlet.
