A Georgia woman whose family is facing $2 million worth of medical bills had a lucky surprise when she found more than $500 under her KFC sandwich.
But perhaps what's even more surprising is the fact that - rather than pocketing the cash - she notified the authorities and returned the money.
In a statement, the City of Jackson Police Department explained how JoAnn Oliver was picking up her lunch at the fast food restaurant when she discovered the money.
"Mrs. Oliver had gone to a local restaurant drive through on her lunch break and returned to work to enjoy her lunch. When she opened her lunch, and removed her sandwich, she was surprised to find $543.10 in cash under her sandwich," the department wrote in a Facebook post.
"After investigating the find, it was determined that the restaurant's daily deposit had accidentally been placed in her sandwich bag," the post went on to explain, adding: Not only did Mrs. Oliver do the right thing but she saved the managers' job."
The department applauded Oliver for being a good and honest citizen, writing: "Mrs. Oliver thank you for reminding us that we have amazing Citizens in Jackson and its people like you that make us great!"
"Character and integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking," they added.

According to a report by WSB-TV, KFC thanked Oliver by refunding her the value of her lunch and giving her a meal on the house.
However, it turned out that Oliver was facing more pressing financial worries than the cost of her KFC sandwich. She told the outlet that her family has around $2 million worth of medical bills to pay due to the fact that her husband is living with cancer.
Despite her own financial difficulties, Oliver claims she only considered keeping some of the money "for a second" before deciding to do the right thing and call the police.

Oliver told the outlet she considered keeping some of the money "for a second," but ultimately, she called the police instead.
"If you don't do the right thing it's gonna come back on you," she said, adding: "I mean It wasn't mine. I didn't need to keep it. I'll get mine in the future."
