Over lockdown, a large number of people stuck indoors without access to a barber decided to shave their heads. Even famous people were getting in on the trend.

Seriously, over the course of 2020, celebrities such as Taron Egerton, Riz Ahmed, and David Beckham all sheared off their hair and rocked the bald look.

Now renowned Hollywood actor Tom Hanks has jumped on the bald bandwagon and has revealed his "horrible" new haircut.

The 63-year-old Academy-Award-winning actor revealed his new look in a recent virtual appearance on the British talk show The Graham Norton Show, which saw him talking to the eponymous host for the duration of the interview while wearing a baseball cap.

Hanks stated that he had been forced to shave his head to play the role of Colonel Tom Parker in an upcoming biopic movie based on the life of rock icon Elvis Presley.

Speaking all the way from Australia, Hanks stated:

"I am working on Baz Lurhmann's movie about Elvis Presley. Austin Butler is playing Elvis Presley. And here, let me show you the horrible haircut I have to have in order to portray Colonel Tom Parker."

Taking off his hat and displaying his shaved crown, Hanks added:

"Check out this horrible ... Can you see that? Look at that thing! ... I just scared the children. I want to apologize for showing that."

The movie's production was shut down for six months due to shooting restrictions caused by COVID-19. But it has since resumed filming, and now is now due to be released on 5 November 2021.

Per Deadline, Lurhmann confirmed that the movie was still going ahead in September, stating:

"We’re back to, as Elvis liked to say: 'taking care of business!'  It is a real privilege in this unprecedented global moment that Tom Hanks has been able to return to Australia to join Austin Butler and all of our extraordinary cast and crew to commence production on Elvis."

"I cannot emphasize enough how lucky we feel in the current climate that the state of Queensland, and Queenslanders in general, have been so supportive of this film."

"We are all excited to start working with Tom Hanks when he is out of quarantine in two weeks."
