While all the trappings of being rich and famous are certainly compelling, what with the private jets, exotic getaways and multi-million dollar mansions, you can't doubt certain actors' commitment to their craft. From playing emotionally draining roles to undertaking vigorous exercise routines, actors such as Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Tom Hardy have certainly taken getting into character seriously. Have a gander at some of the most dramatic celebrity transformations out there - some are almost unrecognisable.
There's nothing cooler than a total body transformation; when somebody totally changes their appearance, just as easily as if they were renovating their house. We've covered plenty of stories about people who have decided to make a radical change in their appearance, and who (in most cases) ended up changing for the better. However, when it's celebrities who are doing the transforming, then it's even more impressive. After all, these people have some of the most recognisable faces in the world, and so if they change their physique, for any reason, then it's a big deal.
Of course, plenty of celebrities are actors, and thus they have to make themselves look radically different to suit a new role from time to time. But sometimes it's just a consequence of their fame increasing over time, so by the time they've reached their prime, they look almost unrecognisable from when they started out. If you want proof, then scroll down to check out a few of our favourite examples.
There are some Hollywood actors that have become practically synonymous with undergoing extreme body transformations in preparation for a role.
Perhaps most notorious for his commitment to truly startling feats of body transformation in Hollywood at the moment is Christian Bale.
Bale has gone from being absolutely ripped for his role as Bruce Wayne in the Batman films, to extremely thin and gaunt for his role in the fighter, to packing on the pounds to play former vice president of the United States, Dick Cheney.
Watch Tom Holland show off his incredible skills in the gym:
And now, Spiderman star Tom Holland is getting in on the act, after he shared a mirror selfie of him getting absolutely jacked for his new film Uncharted.
Holland is starring in the movie with Mark Wahlberg, someone who is well known for his dedication to getting absolutely ripped, as well as his truly nuts daily schedule.
"When working with @markwahlberg you gotta get after it!" Holland wrote on Instagram, along with a mirror selfie of his extremely muscular physique.

For his own part, Mark Wahlberg is used to really giving it some when it comes to working out and eating. In an Instagrm Q&A, he spoke about what he eats in a day, saying;
"I start out with steel cut oats, peanut butter and blueberries and eggs for breakfast.
"Then I have a protein shake, which is a Performance Inspired Nutrition vanilla latte shake, three turkey burgers, five pieces of sweet potato. That is at about 5.30 in the morning."
"At 8.00, I have about 10 turkey meatballs. At 10.30, I have a grilled chicken salad with two hard boiled eggs with olive, avocado, cucumber, tomato, lettuce.
"And then at 1.00, I have a New York steak with green peppers. Then at 3.30, I have grilled chicken with bok choy ... At about 5.30-6.00, I have a beautiful piece of halibut or a cod or a sea bass - some sort of white fish with some vegetable, maybe some sautéed spinach."
Per ComicBook.com, Venom director Ruben Fleischer is at the helm for the video game adaption, with a cast that includes stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, and Antonio Banderas.
In a post-avocado, post-cold brew and thoroughly "hipster" world, beards aren't just a commonplace accessory anymore – they're an expected accouterments. I mean, are you even strolling around East London or the streets of Brooklyn if the men you pass don't have some form of facial hair? I think not.
However, the trend has managed to surpass the dingy dives and indie bars of the world and has found its way into mainstream fashion. And beards certainly can transform a face. I mean, just look at these 10 celebrities. Yeah, they were super attractive before, but you can't deny that that extra facial hair just adds... something. Have a gander below.
Well, there you have it. While none of us can deny that these celebs weren't some of the best looking in the entertainment without the facial hair, I'm sure we can all agree that they look much better for it.
The mark of a good character actor is their ability to embody any role, and to seamlessly become a completely alternate persona on a whim. Often, a great actor is able to completely transform themselves, and take on the characteristics of the person they're playing so minutely, that they become more or less unrecognisable as a result.
Some actors make money based on how iconic their faces are, and the box office draw that their features can boast studios. Whereas others blend into the background when the director calls cut, and you might not even notice them if you saw them in the street.
To prove it, we've collated a list of some of the most cunningly-disguised actors in show business, who look totally different when compared to their on-screen characters. Scroll down to check out just how different they really look in real life.
Some movie parts are so iconic, that you struggle to imagine anyone else in the lead role. Think about it: what would Taxi Driver look like without Robert De Niro? Or The Terminator without Arnold Schwarzenegger? They'd be a pale imitation of themselves. But the fact is that casting directors look everywhere for the right person to attach to a big project, and they often consider a wide range of actors and actresses before finally picking the right one.
Yes, if just a few people's schedules had been different, then we might have seen very different movies portrayed by very different actors. With that in mind, it's fun to look at some of the alternative choices in Hollywood's history, and ponder what might have been. Scroll down to check out which actors were meant to play the lead role in iconic Hollywood movies.
