December has arrived once more, which for a lot of people means the return of 'the Elf on the Shelf'. If you don't know what that is, it all began with a children's book in the United States.
The 2005 book tells the story of how
Santa sends a scout elf out to check whether children are being naughty or nice, with the festive toy adding another dimension to the Christmas tale.
Parents then move the elf around to give the impression it's travelling unseen throughout the house, and sometimes leave little presents as rewards for good behaviour.
But not all parents are taking it too seriously. As these images show, sometimes it's best not to leave a

In all honesty, while a child might have a lot of fun with this, it seems a little creepy to me, even without these (hilariously) strange images. The idea of the elf watching you as you sleep, moving around under the cover of darkness, silently judging you... it's a perfect idea for a horror movie, let's be honest.
