As anyone who has a propensity for romantic films will attest to, people have the strangest of reasons for jilting their lover at the altar. Whether it's due to last minute cold feet or something a little darker, it's clear that some people just get freaked out by the concept of life-long commitment.
And sure, there is
a lot
to fear. With divorce rates doubling, and more and more people choosing to make the leap later in life, marriage has become somewhat of an outdated concept.
Certainly, Millennials are saying "no" to tying the knot in record numbers. Whilst our parents thought it was perfectly normal to enter into the institution of marriage in their early twenties, we eschew settling down with a near religious fervour. As such, it's become common to hear horror stories of those who very nearly make it to the chapel... only to pull out at the last minute. So let's take a look at some of the most ridiculous reasons why people chose to cancel their weddings, shall we?
2. This is a little drastic, no?
3. Irrational fears can really take over when your nuptials are fast approaching
4. Sometimes, it's a good idea to call off your own wedding
5. And here's another legitimate reason...
6. Well, that didn't quite go to plan
7. Occasionally, the littlest of things can make you realise that there's a big problem
8. Finances can be a big deal for some
9. This should always be a deal-breaker
10. For others, fertility is a deal-breaker
11. In-laws can prove to be troublesome
12. They made the right decision
13. Other people really shouldn't get involved...
15. Sometimes the timing can be really off
16. This must have been painful
18. You can't let the fear of judgement hold you back
Although several of those decisions were entirely justified, a few really reiterate how important it is to have open lines of communication in the run up to marriage. Tying the knot is truly quite an undertaking, and so it is essential to evaluate where you are in your relationship and whether it is feasible for you to remain with this person, till death does you part...
