FaceApp's "old" filter has taken the world of apps by storm. Now, with nothing more than a few clicks, you can turn yourself, a loved one, or a celeb into their older selves - with some truly jaw-dropping results.
However, how accurate can an app be when it comes to predicting the future? Well, we've put it to the test. Putting in photographs of older celebs as young people and comparing them to what they look like now. The results are shockingly accurate a testament to the fact there's some impressive technology behind Faceapp!
[post_page_title]Morgan Freeman[/post_page_title]
He's the man many people would happily listen to read the dictionary and has been a staple of the entertainment world for decades. What's your favorite performance? For me, it's his role as Red in The Shawshank Redemption.

As hard as it might be to believe, the picture on the left is actually a FaceApp transformation of Freeman as a young man, and on the right is what he actually looks like as an older one. Talk about accurate!
[post_page_title]Queen Elizabeth II[/post_page_title]
When you're born into the Royal Family, especially the British one, your every move is documented - from the day you make your grand entrance into the world until the day you make your equally grand exit.
[caption id="attachment_1139" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]

So, needless to say, there were a lot of pictures of Queen Elisabeth for FaceApp users to chose from. And, once again, the app's ability to predict what the looks like as a mature lady is truly impressive.
[post_page_title]Dick Van Dyke[/post_page_title]
But, as any avid user of tech will tell you, it's not always completely reliable and one actor who's FaceApp transformation isn't quite so accurate is the legendary star of stage and screen Dick Van Dyke.
[caption id="attachment_1140" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
FaceApp predicted that he'd have seriously salt and pepper hair - and that his skin would be a lot darker than it turned out to be in his old age. It also gave him a fair few extra wrinkles too.
[post_page_title]James Earl Jones[/post_page_title]
A lot of factors affect how a person will age, which means that even the most advanced technology will never be able to predict it completely accurately. Take lifestyle, for example. A good and healthy one can keep a person looking younger.
[caption id="attachment_1141" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
Clearly, FacApp had no idea that Jones' healthy lifestyle would help him stay looking great for longer! Not only is he less wrinkly than the app predicted, but he's also a lot more vibrant looking too.
[post_page_title]Cecily Tyson[/post_page_title]
FaceApp's transformations are sometimes limited because they don't account for trends like thick eyebrows and lips, which, in the not so distant past, would have been unthinkable on a more mature person.
[caption id="attachment_1142" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
But there's no doubt that the app was right in its prediction that Tyson would look great as an older woman, and in terms of foreshadowing the limited number of lines on her face, it really was spot on.
[post_page_title]Maggie Smith[/post_page_title]
We live in a world where it's easier than ever to try and stop the aging process, but there is a lot of truth in the old saying that you should grow old gracefully, and Maggie Smith is proof.
[caption id="attachment_1143" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
While the real older Maggie and FaceApp's interpretation aren't exactly similar, I think we can all agree that they both look like pretty swish older women - and I'm sure the real Maggie would approve of the app predicting she'd still be that committed to her hair!
[post_page_title]Sidney Poitier[/post_page_title]
If these celebrity aging transformations are anything to go by, it's safe to suggest that FaceApp is better at predicting what men will look at in their more mature years than women. Case in point...
[caption id="attachment_1144" align="alignnone" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
This is surprisingly accurate. The only thing the app got a little wrong was how greyed his hair would be. But hey! No one, not even AI, is perfect.
[post_page_title]Clint Eastwood[/post_page_title]
Okay, I take back what I said about FaceApp being more accurate with its predictions for men. The app obviously malfunctioned when it came to predicting what Clint Eastwood would look like later in life.
[caption id="attachment_1147" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
I can't think of anything the app actually got right when it came to poor old Clint. In fact, if you didn't know better, you'd think that you were looking at two completely different older men!
[post_page_title]Angela Lansbury[/post_page_title]
When you get older, it's almost expected that you will let yourself go in one way or another, but Angela Lansbury is a testament to the fact that you can stay as glamorous as you were in your youth.
[caption id="attachment_1148" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
And this was something which FaceApp amazingly managed to pick up on! While it didn't quite get her hair right, it nailed what her eyebrows, wrinkles, and smile would all look like as a mature lady.
[post_page_title]Bettie White[/post_page_title]
This is another fantastic example of FaceApp doing a jaw-dropping job. Bettie White is a bona fide living legend and she looks as fabulous in her 90s as she did as a young woman - proof that true beauty has no expiry date.
[caption id="attachment_1150" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
FaceApp successfully predicted not only what her hair would look lie (bar color, but hey-ho), her wrinkles, eye and nose shape, and of course, that she'd still have that infectious grin decades later!
[post_page_title]Barbara Walters[/post_page_title]
SFaceApp's old filter couldn't be further off the mark when it comes to what some celebrities will look like in their old age. But some celebs just have good genes. Take Barbra Walters for example...
[caption id="attachment_1152" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
There's no denying that she looks great as an older woman, and it turns out this is entirely the result of good genes and not a surgeon's knife - although she's admitted having some botox. She said: "I have good genes. My mother had good cheekbones, so do I. My mother had good legs. The legs are the last to go."
[post_page_title]Keith Richards[/post_page_title]
In the majority of cases, FaceApp has been too harsh on celebs, but when you've lived a life as crazy as Keith Richard's (although I'm sure he doesn't regret a thing), it turns out that it was more kind than cruel.
[caption id="attachment_1153" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
But hey! He's the most badass grandpa out there and he's still pulling moves with Jagger despite being well into his 70s. These guys will be painting it black even when they're six feet under.
[post_page_title]Dolly Parton[/post_page_title]
One of the most famously cosmetically altered celebs, second only to the likes of Michael Jackson, is, of course, the country sensation that is Dolly Parton. This is what she might have looked like had she aged naturally...
[caption id="attachment_1154" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
Wow. There's no other word for it. What do you think? Do you prefer the cosmetically altered Dolly? Or FaceApp's preduction of what her younger self would have looked like had she aged naturally?
[post_page_title]Jane Fonda[/post_page_title]
For many people, a natural part of the aging process involves their lips getting thinner, but this didn't happen to Jane Fonda, and her's retained not only their shape but their fullness.
[caption id="attachment_1156" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
Amazingly, FaceApp did get the wrinkles on her face right. The only thing it failed to predict would be that her eyes would be as big and bright as ever even as an older woman.
[post_page_title]Ian McKellen[/post_page_title]
Ian McKellen is one of the rare actors out there who has occupied some of his most iconic roles as an older man - Gandalf is one of the many examples that come to mind, and it turns out that FaceApp's prediction for him was spot on...
[caption id="attachment_1157" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
Add a beard to that altered picture and boom! He could have walked straight out of Middle Earth. Ian McKellen is an icon not only in the acting and LGBTQ+ communities but the older one, again proving that age is just a number.
[post_page_title]David Attenborough[/post_page_title]
Second only to Queen Elizabeth II, one of the most famous living 90-odd-year-olds is David Attenborough. The documentary maker and activist has been a staple of our TVs for over half a century.
[caption id="attachment_1158" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
And FaceApp wasn't too far off the mark again when it came to predicting what he'd look like as an older person. I mean, that picture is in black and white, so it's not like you can say it got his hair color wrong.
[post_page_title]Dame Judi Dench[/post_page_title]
Oh dear. This is one transformation that we don't think Dench would be too pleased with. As far as FaceApp's concerned, her younger self was going to gain some weight in the future.
[caption id="attachment_1159" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
We think the real, mature Judy Dench looks a lot better than the app predicted. Her eyes are much more vibrant! And her hair, though white, definitely suits her more than its fuller interpretation.
[post_page_title]Arnold Schwarzenegger[/post_page_title]
From a FaceApp fail to one that's ridiculously accurate. Pictured below is the legendary actor and former governor of California and strongman, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The app didn't get his older self wrong at all!
[caption id="attachment_1160" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
I mean sure, the hairstyle is off, but apart from that! It's nailed the positioning of the actor's wrinkles and the fact that he never lost his hair over time.
[post_page_title]Harrison Ford[/post_page_title]
This is easily one of the best FaceApp predictions on this list. There's no doubt that Harrison Ford is an attractive older man, and this was something that FaceApp successfully predicted when it transformed a picture of his younger self.
[caption id="attachment_1161" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
The app has absolutely nailed how the actor's forehead wrinkled - for real. It's got the shape of his lips as an older man down to a tee, and it's completely predicted what his eyes would look like too!
[post_page_title]Prince Philip[/post_page_title]
Having lived a life of luxury, it's almost expected that members of the Royal family will live particularly long lives and Prince Philip, who is currently 98 years old, is a testament to this fact.
[caption id="attachment_1162" align="aligncenter" width="1420"]
Credit: FaceApp / Getty[/caption]
This is another example of FaceApp being particularly spot on with its prediction. Most people are six feet under at his age, but he's still going relatively strong and is smiling to boot!
