5 Episodes of massive TV shows which were delayed for the most bizarre reasons
1. Sunshine
Any Game of Thrones fans out there might cringe a little when they read this, but the 7th season of the hit HBO series might have actually hit our screens sooner if it weren't for the weather conditions the production team needed when shooting.
"We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' – and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot," said showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
2. Tornadoes
Pretty much the opposite of the previous point: a crossover between Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad had to be postponed due to tornadoes hitting the southern states. The topic of the crossover episode was a hurricane that hit all three fictional towns in which the shows are set, so it was deemed to be inappropriate for airing at the time and was subsequently delayed by nearly six months.
3. Costumes
Some of the most iconic show costumes from the 20th and 21st century come from one franchise: Star Trek. Even people who have never seen the show recognize those retro-futuristic jumpsuit-kinda-things (can you tell I haven't watched it?). So, the production of Star Trek: Discovery had to be postponed in order to get them exactly right.
"We flew a costume designer to Switzerland to pick up the fabric for the Starfleet uniforms. Several items on our uniforms are 3D printed. Some of our sets can take over six weeks to make. CBS has given us the time and the money to make something the fans will find worthwhile," explained Co-showrunner Aaron Harberts
4. Obama
There's a tendency in the states to blame the president for pretty much anything that goes wrong in the country, but this one was definitely Obama's fault.
ABC's medical drama, Body of Proof, had to move its season three premiere so that it wouldn't clash with the former President's State of the Union address and ended up being aired two weeks later than it was scheduled to. Thanks, Obama.
5. Power cut
Considering all the high-tech work that goes into making a TV show, you wouldn't expect one to be delayed so severely by something as low-tech as a power cut. However, in 2013, South Park experienced their first ever delay in releasing an episode after the studio suffered a three-hour power outage. As a result, the episode didn't get finished in time for its usual slot.
"It sucks to miss an air date but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen," said Co-creator, Trey Parker.
