1. Relieves stress
Obviously, nobody's stressed out after having an orgasm (unless you're cheating on your wife with your mistress and you just heard your wife walk in the front door). We all know that moment feels pretty good. But orgasms are actually scientifically proven to relieve stress and pain. They release the hormone oxytocin into the bloodstream, which increases feelings of trust, optimism and self-esteem.
2. Good for your heart
Cardiovascular workouts are an essential part of exercise. I prefer the classics, like the treadmill and the elliptical machine. Other people go for the stairmaster, plyometrics and jump rope. However, "anything that exercises your heart is good for you," according to the UK's National Health Service. And guess what? That includes orgasms. The NHS says "Sexual arousal sends the heart rate higher and the number of beats per minute reaches its peak during orgasm.” (Technically, does this make all pornos fitness videos?)
3. Will help you get a promotion at work
Now, this doesn't mean you should walk into your boss' office, say you had an orgasm this morning, and expect him or her to be so impressed they'll give you a promotion. But according to a study, daily orgasms help you feel more productive and engaged. Therefore, you perform better at your job. "We make jokes about people having a spring in their step," says Professor Leavitt from Oregon State University. "But it turns out this is a real thing and we should pay attention to it.” Now you know what to do on your fifteen minute breaks!
4. Helps you fall asleep
Studies show awful things happen when you don't get enough sleep, from vision problems to headaches to depression. Doctors recommend you get eight hours of sleep every night, but sometimes it's easier said than done. We all toss and turn and struggle with insomnia from time to time (at least I do). You can try reading a book or watching TV, but the best sleep aid might be having an orgasm. According to a study cited in the book "The Orgasm Answer Guide," 32% of women reported masturbating to get themselves to sleep. (I'm guessing for men, it was around 99.9%.)
5. Good for your immune system
An apple a day keeps the doctor away - and so do orgasms! Well, not entirely. But there's an important substance in your immune system called Immunoglobulin A. It plays a crucial role in fighting illnesses, and according to a study, sex increases the amount of this antibody. The NHS says "Immunoglobulin A (IgA) was 30% higher in those who had sex once or twice a week than in those who had no sex at all. The lowest levels were in people who had sex more than twice a week."
6. Fakers are more likely to cheat
Sorry, fakers. You might be the Meryl Streep of pretending to have an "O," but it doesn't have the same positive effects as the real thing. In fact, it can actually have negative effects, such as increased likelihood of infidelity. Scientists analyzed data from a survey of young people and published the study "Human Female Orgasm as Evolved Signal: A Test of Two Hypotheses." They discovered that when women were dishonest about their sexual satisfaction, they were more likely to cheat on their partner. Therefore, if you have a real orgasm with your partner every day, it can help protect your relationship.
7. Less likely to get prostate cancer
And here's an exclusive benefit for the men: having a daily orgasm can reduce risk of prostate cancer. According to a study conducted by the Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women Hospital, men who ejaculated 21 times a month reduced their risk of prostate cancer by 22%. Does that mean if you ejaculate 42 times a month, you can reduce your risk by 44%? Probably not. But still, this is a pretty interesting correlation.8. It's fun
I mean, there are worse ways to spend your time, right? As Jack Nicholson's character typed in The Shining, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." It's tempting to let your career consume your life - especially if you're passionate about your work - but if you make some time for fun, you'll be a happier and healthier person. And what could be more fun than this? Do you really need an excuse?
Well, there you have it. I know your daily routine might be packed with activities and obligations, but making time for this special task might be a great idea.
