This week Vanity Fair released their annual "Hollywood" issue - because it's so rare to see celebrities on the covers of magazines. On this cover, twelve of the biggest stars put on their fanciest clothes and did their best "blue steel" pose for a dynamic photo. When it was first released, people spotted
in which
appeared to have three legs and Oprah appeared to have three hands. Everyone - including Reese, Oprah, and Vanity Fair - had quite a laugh about it on Twitter.

However, the picture-perfect controversy isn't over yet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, one celebrity was entirely scrubbed from the Vanity Fair cover. If you look at the photo, they feature a mixture of Hollywood icons (like Robert De Niro,
and
) as well as the new generation of talent (like Gal Gadot, Michael B. Jordan and Zendaya). And you know who else was supposed be there? James Franco.
Franco would have fit right in on the cover, coming off of his acclaimed performance in The Disaster Artist. In the movie, he plays abrasive, eccentric director Tommy Wiseau, and disappears into the character, playing him not as a mockery but a sympathetic figure. However, a spokesperson for Vanity Fair said they decided to digitally remove Franco "once we learned of the misconduct allegations against him." There was also an interview with him that was supposed to run, conducted by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. Vanity Fair cut that too.

In a report published by The Los Angeles Times, five women accused Franco of sexual misconduct. The alleged incidents took place while they were students at Franco's acting school in New York. They say he pressured them into doing things, even though they felt uncomfortable, leading them to believe it could advance their careers. One woman says that during a nude orgy scene, he removed the protective plastic guards over their vaginas while simulating oral sex. (Wait, what? This is what they do in acting school?) And another woman says Franco would become angry when no women were topless. And one woman says he pushed her head down to perform oral sex in his car.
At Golden Globe Awards, Franco won "Best Actor" for The Disaster Artist. Virtually everyone at the event wore pins to declare their support for "Times Up," a movement against sexual harassment and assault. When one of James' alleged victims saw him on TV with the pin, she said it “felt like a slap in the face." (Although wouldn't it have been more offensive if he
didn't
wear it?) Afterward, the women felt encouraged to come forward with their stories. In
, Franco denied the allegations, said he would make amends for any wrongdoing and reiterated his support for "Times Up."

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that de-Franco-ing the photo wasn't too difficult, since the twelve celebrities weren't there at the same time. They were shot in small groups, then smashed together in Photoshop. (This just in: Everything in Hollywood is fake.) However, THR notes that it's "highly unusual" to remove someone at the last minute and must have been a "sprint to the presses."
Well, I guess you can always use Photoshop to re-insert Franco into the cover. I'm just disappointed they didn't replace him with
.
