Bobi the farm dog has set a new Guinness World Record for being the oldest dog to have ever lived after reaching a staggering 30 years old.

As is often said, humanity really doesn't deserve dogs but we certainly won't complain that they're here to make our lives better each and every day.

The downside is simply that they don't have the same life expectancy as we do, so all pet owners eventually have to endure the heartbreak of losing their canine companion.

However, one farm dog in Portugal is going against the odds and proving that age really is just a number, as he is pushing 31 years of age and is still going strong.

Bobi was born in 1992, and the Rafeiro do Alentejo breed remains in the same village of Conqueiros where he was born on his family farm, per the Daily Mail.

The world record was recognized on February 1 when Bobi reached a staggering 30 years and 267 days old.

Despite being an old boy, the world's oldest dog has a calm, sociable nature and still enjoys playing with the family's four cats.

Bobi's family believes that the secret to his longevity is that he has lived his entire life in the peaceful countryside surrounded by nature, far removed from the hectic stresses of modern life.

Many dog owners will give their pets branded food designed for dogs, but Bobi has always eaten whatever his family has for dinner, but they soak it in water first and remove the seasoning.

Leonel Costa, Bobi's owner, describes his canine companion as "one of a kind" and hopes that he is still able to have puppies, as he is currently the last of his family lineage.

"Bobi has been a warrior for all these years, only he knows how he's been holding on, it must not be easy because the average dog's life span is not that high and if he spoke only he could explain this success," Costa said.

"We are very happy and grateful to life for allowing us, after 30 years, to have Bobi in our daily lives."

Bobi was registered with the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria in 1992, and they confirmed his birthdate when the world records organization was investigating his age.

The oldest dog ever title was previously held by an Australian cattle dog called Bluey who lived 29 years and 5 months before passing away in November 1939.
