A six-year-old Goldendoodle is Facebook's newest hero after rescuing a baby fawn from drowning in a lake in Virginia.

Brave Harley refused to leave the fawn's side when he spotted the animal drowning in a nearby lake before rushing to its aide, per People Magazine.

The pup's owners - Ralph Dorn and his wife Pat, both military veterans - posted pictures and videos of Harley in the middle of the lake behind their Virginia home.

The pictures showed the pooch usher the baby fawn back to shore.

"Not sure how the fawn got out there, but Harley obviously didn't ask why, he just jumped into action," Dorn said in his Facebook post, which has been shared over 256,000 times and liked more than 113,000 times in just two weeks.

In the footage, Harley is seen paddling with his new friend until they reach Dorn, who's waiting for them at the shoreline.

Dorn then helps Harley out of the water while his Goldendoodle licks the baby deer.

Dorn told People Magazine: "Harley didn't want to leave the fawn. He just kept interacting with it, licking it, caring for it."

The next morning, Dorn said in his Facebook post that "Harley got restless running from window to window."

He recalled: "I opened the front door and we could hear the fawn bleating. Harley ran into the tree line and found the fawn. The little one stopped bleating, tail wagging, they touched noses sniffed each other and Harley came calmly back to the house with me."

Harley has worked as a certified therapy dog, visiting the elderly in care facilities and sitting with children during reading hours at the local library.

"We were just amazed," Pat said. "We had no idea of the reaction. We're very happy that it has touched so many people, and brought joy to so many as well."

It comes as a firefighter's therapy dog saved a suicidal woman's life after tempting her back from a bridge during a distressing ordeal.

Labradoodle Digby saved the life of a woman who was found on a bridge over a highway near Exeter, England, on June 15, per Daily Mail.

News of Digby's heroic actions was shared on Twitter by the fire service who wrote: "This is Digby. Today he did something amazing and helped save a young woman who was thinking of taking her own life on a bridge over the M5 near Exeter."

The fire service continued: "We were at the incident as part of a multi-agency response. Police negotiators were speaking with the woman but the situation was becoming increasingly worrying.

"One of the fire crews had the idea to bring along Digby, our 'defusing' dog. Digby helps crews who have been exposed to trauma during talking therapy 'diffusing' sessions."
