A firefighters' therapy dog has won widespread praise after tempting a suicidal woman back from a bridge during a distressing ordeal.
Labradoodle Digby saved the life of a woman who was found on a bridge over a highway near Exeter, England, on June 15, per Daily Mail.
News of Digby's heroic actions was shared on Twitter by the fire service who wrote: "This is Digby. Today he did something amazing and helped save a young woman who was thinking of taking her own life on a bridge over the M5 near Exeter."
The fire service continued: "We were at the incident as part of a multi-agency response. Police negotiators were speaking with the woman but the situation was becoming increasingly worrying.
"One of the fire crews had the idea to bring along Digby, our 'defusing' dog. Digby helps crews who have been exposed to trauma during talking therapy 'diffusing' sessions."
They added: "When Digby arrived, the young woman immediately swung her head round to look and smiled. This got a conversation started about Digby and his role at the fire service.
"She was asked if she would like to come and meet Digby if she came back over the railings, which we are pleased to say she did."
Digby's actions did not go unnoticed on social media, and the therapy pooch was flooded with praise!
One Twitter user wrote: "Well done Digby and whoever had the bright idea. Good work."
A second added: "It's misty in here. Thank you, whoever you are for taking Digby with you."
A third wrote: "I reckon his awesome handler Matt needs a shout out as well, what a brilliant team."
A fourth remarked: "I'm so glad that dogs are being seen as great assistance dogs. They are great for calming and to talk to as they listen!"
Meanwhile, a fifth suggested that Digby and his handler deserve capes for their heroic work.
They wrote: "As Digby is #trending and a total superstar for #savinglives that would be brilliant Digby NEEDS a cape and one for Matt."
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service concluded their Twitter thread by saying that they wish the woman involved all the best in her recovery.
On that note, well done Digby!
