Some truly horrifying doorbell camera footage shows what appears to be a massive huntsman spider crawling around in the dead of night.

Yes, in news that will freak out those who are less than fond of our arachnid friends, it seems that the huntsman spider can't get enough of the doorbell camera.

The eerie footage, it will come as a surprise to precisely no-one, was captured in Australia.

You can watch the terrifying video right here (but be warned: if you're scared of spiders it might be best to avoid watching):

The video was posted to Reddit in the r/australia subreddit section and is captioned "Old mate kept ringing my doorbell at 2am"

And commenters on Reddit weighed in on why the spider might have been attracted to the doorbell camera in the first place.

"Probably attracted by the warmth of the camera," one redditor hypothesized, while another added, "Yes, this happens to my Arlo all the time. It's pretty annoying."

Another commenter on Reddit speculated over the species of spider, believed to be a huntsman. They wrote;

"I believe this is a Huntsman spider which are incredibly common but honestly they're quite harmless. They almost never bite humans and on the very rare occasion they do, you'll just get a little ill. There are other types of spiders Australia that are far more dangerous, such as the funnel-web."

According to the Australian Museum, huntsman spiders are not generally considered to be dangerous for humans. A description on their website reads;

"Despite their often large and hairy appearance, huntsman spiders are not considered to be dangerous spiders. As with most spiders, they do possess venom, and a bite may cause some ill effects. However, they are quite reluctant to bite, and will usually try to run away rather than be aggressive. In houses they perform a useful role as natural pest controllers."

So while the spider's appearance may be more spooky than its actual threat towards us humans, it doesn't make the footage any less creepy.
