Now that the coronavirus has driven a lot of people indoors for the indefinite future, a lot of us are going to have to come up with new ways of passing the time. Some people will get into knitting, others will start writing that novel they've been putting off, and some may even finally get round to learning a new language.

But now we might well have seen the most bizarre coronavirus-provoked project of them all. Yes, this week a bored couple in quarantine has ended up going viral on social media, after creating an adorable art gallery for their pet gerbils.

Recently, this vet stated that the coronavirus can pass from pets to humans:

According to a recent report by The Art Newspaper, the project was the brainchild of an independent curator and employee of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, Filippo Lorenzin.

Lorenzin and his partner decided to make their own teeny-tiny art gallery and let their furry pets scamper around inside it. As you can see from the tweets below, it even features rodent parodies of works by great masters, such as: 'Il Gerbilio con L’orrechino di Perla', which spoofs Vermeer’s iconic portrait.

Commenting on his project in a later interview, Lorenzin stated: "It was fun to play around with the white cube aesthetics and the raw energy of our gerbils [...] We hope this will make people who are stuck at home recall good memories in museums and encourage them to support institutions in such uncertain times."

Personally, I think this art gallery is a great idea, and hopefully, other people will attempt to make their own. So if you're stuck indoors and bored during the pandemic, then why not do yourself a favor and create something special for your pets? They probably deserve it if they've been keeping you company during the lockdown.

We are urging all of our readers to adhere to the advice from their respective governments and medical bodies, and practice social distancing and self-isolation where required. Together, we will beat this...
