The world is full of clichés, but one which many people do not mind hearing time and time again is that a dog is man's best friend. It's backed up by science, too. According to a study published in Science Advances, dogs love humans because their genetics predispose them to domestication and hyper-social behavior.
Unfortunately, however, as much as dogs love their humans, the rates at which they go missing are startling. The American Humane Association has estimated that one in three pets will go missing during their lifetime, and a survey by the ASPCA found that just 14% of all missing dogs are reunited with their owners.
So when this pooch was reunited with his owner after three years apart, his reaction was heartwarming, to say the least:The video features Giorgi Bereziani, who, at the time of filming in October 2018, was 62 years old, ViralHog reports. His pet dog, Jorge, had gone missing in Georgia's capital Tbilisi in 2015.
Despite being gone for so long, Giorgi never gave up looking for his companion, and after three years of fruitless searching, he finally got the call he'd been waiting for. Workers at an opera house had called him to say that a dog matching Jorge's description was outside their building.
In the clip above, when Giorgi walks over to Jorge, who at this point is sleeping, and calls his name, the animal immediately looks up and erupts with joy, barking and wagging his tail.
"Jorge, is that you? Jorge? Jorge, it's you! Oh, dear boy, how are you, boy?" Giorgi says in the video.
Understandably, people on social media were touched by Jorge's reaction to seeing Giorgi again:
"Bro that dog probably was in shock after hearing his name being called after 3 years," wrote one YouTube user.
"I bet the dog has his own story how he survived 3 years," remarked a second. "Sad part is he can't share it with us."
Jorge, however, is far from the only dog to be reunited with his owner after years apart:Alright, can somebody pass the tissues?!
