A sheep that went missing back in 2013 has amazingly turned up safe and sound seven years later.

Prickles the sheep - named after her prickly fleece - went missing back in 2013 when huge bushfires tore through the Australian island of Tasmania.

But on Good Friday earlier this month, Prickles was thankfully spotted on farmer Alice Gray's land during a family barbecue.

Per BBC News, Alice explained: "When we saw her, we thought what is that? It is massive."

Alice added that back in 2013, "all the fences" on the farm were burned down and she believes the sheep became trapped in a "bush block" towards the back of the farm when the fences were rebuilt.

She went on: "We didn’t know Prickles existed, however, we had an inkling because we set up some night-time cameras to see if we had any deer and one night we saw this huge ball, fluffy thing come and peer into the lens. So we had a feeling there was some creature out there."

After somehow surviving in Tasmanian bush for seven years, Prickles was discovered during a family barbecue and was eventually tackled (lovingly) by Alice's husband.

It then took five adults to put her in the back of a Ute.

The family is now planning to hold a "Guess The Weight of Her Fleece" competition in an effort to raise money for the United Nations Refugee Agency. Alice explained that refugees are the "one group of people on the planet who can’t socially isolate" amid the current pandemic.

The family has booked the shearer for May 1 and will announce the winner of the competition that day.

Alice has since revealed that Prickles is going to be spending her days in a "happy place", saying: "She's doing wonderfully. She's going to be staying in our retirement paddock for the rest of her life. So she's going to spend her days in a happy place."
