Owning a dog is hard work - you have to train them, take them for walks, groom them, and so on.

But luckily, one device has been developed allowing the laziest of lazy dog owners to make sure their dogs (or cats) can leave the room whenever they want without their owners having to do it for them manually.

It's called the MyQ Pet Portal and it's essentially a high-tech sliding door for cats and dogs that allows you to let your four-legged friend out for some fresh air and more without having to move.

Developed by Chamberlain Group, it connects to a sensor on your pet's collar and lets them out automatically when they're nearby. It comes as part of a custom-fitted, full-size door, and is concealed under a smart panel, which slides open and closed.

It also comes with 1080p cameras, connecting to the app and allowing you to watch over your beloved animal.

The app also gives owners a daily breakdown of their pet's movements, recording how often they go outside and the length of time that they do so.

The device is ideal for cats and dogs between 10 and 90 pounds and comes with safety sensors so they won't get trapped.

The portal has also won awards including the Best Innovation Award in the Smart Home category at the Consumer Electronics Show 2021.

If you'd like to get your hands on it, it will set you back a whopping $3,000 at least.

"What sets the myQ Pet Portal apart from other dog doors on the market is the fact that it offers convenience, safety, and security all in one solution," said Brittany McArdell, a professional dog trainer and owner of North Paws Canine Services.

The company had McArdell test the Pet Portal, and to make sure it complied with safety standards.

"It definitely provides a smarter way to parent and makes time apart easier for both dogs and their owners," Brittany added.

"A bright spot for many people in a challenging 2020 has been adding a furry friend to the family," added Beril Altiner, director of product marketing for Chamberlain Group.

"But as Covid-19 restrictions begin to lift in 2021 many dogs will experience a dramatic change in their routine."
