Last night, somebody decided that it was a good idea to put
Donald Trump and
Piers Morgan in the same room. Quite why it was viewed as a sensible thing to do, I'm not too sure, but the results were pretty interesting. As you can imagine when you put two, shall we say, 'polarising' characters in a room together, there were comments that both infuriated, surprised and confused the audience in equal measure.

The two men discussed a wide variety of issues; from feminism through to radical Islam and
climate change. Unsurprisingly, Trump's comments regarding all of the above caused mass debate on social media, with the majority of people despairing at the things he said.
Take climate change for example: while the majority of us are aware of the impact our actions are now having on the environment, Trump has always remained a sceptic. Talking about the issue, the president said:
"There is a cooling, and there’s a heating. I mean, look, it used to not be climate change, it used to be global warming. That wasn’t working too well because it was getting too cold all over the place."

But it was his next comment that defied logic. It is undeniable that ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, in fact, they actually hit a record low in 2017. Trump, however, doesn't believe this. Refuting the concept of scientific data, he went on the suggest that ice caps are actually in better condition than ever... seriously.
"The ice caps were going to melt, they were going to be gone by now, but now they’re setting records. They’re at a record level."

But, credit where credit is due, Trump did say that he would apologise to the people of UK for retweeting the far-right group, Britain First. The tweets caused a stir last year after the President retweeted videos posted by the leader of the group, which depicted scenes of graphic violence that she claimed had been carried out in the name of 'Islam' without any evidence to back this up.
"It was done because I am a big believer in fighting radical, Islamic terror. This was a depiction of radical Islamic terror. If you are telling me they're horrible people, horrible, racist people, I would certainly apologise if you'd like me to do that."
But while his statements and views may have grabbed the headlines, there was another part of the interview that grabbed the attention of viewers.
Throughout the interview, Trump had a glass of water by his side which he had covered with a coaster and people were left very confused by his actions.

Trump is a known germaphobe and he is also absolutely frightened of being poisoned, which could explain why there was a lid on the water. However, that didn't stop the users of Twitter thinking that maybe the President's paranoia was a cause for concern.

Trump's interview was watched by millions and was no doubt a big score for Morgan, who seems to be reveling in the fact that he got to spend some time with the president. While the lid on the water was comical, the more important issues that should be discussed are the fact that the President of the US flat out refused that ice caps are melting and denied that he was a feminist. Bad!
