Succession star James Cromwell has taken a stand against Starbucks' up-charge for vegan milk.
On Tuesday morning, the 82-year-old actor superglued his hand to the counter of a Midtown Manhattan Starbucks in protest against the coffee chain charging customers extra to have vegan milk alternatives in their drinks.
Cromwell was joined by a team of fellow PETA activists, who carried signs that read "Stop Upcharging For Vegan Milk" while they shouted at employees and customers.
The protest was live-streamed on Facebook in a video that showed Cromwell and a fellow PETA member sitting on the counter with their hands firmly glued down. In a loud voice, Cromwell rattled off reasons why producing milk from cows is harmful to animals and the environment.
"My friends at PETA and I are calling on Starbucks to stop punishing kind and environmentally conscious customers for choosing plant milks," stated the L.A. Confidential star, who wore a t-shirt that said "Free The Animals" for his protest.
"We all have a stake in the life-and-death matter of the climate catastrophe, and Starbucks should do its part by ending its vegan up-charge," Cromwell added.
Per Page Six, the protest came to an end when police arrived on the scene and he and his fellow PETA members were forced to leave the store.
Cromwell separated his hand from the countertop using a knife so he would not be arrested and congratulated the team for their action, which had forced the store to temporarily shut.
"That’s kind of what we were hoping for," one protestor said of the closure while Cromwell commended them all, saying: "Really good job."
In recent years, Cromwell has been best known for his role in HBO's Succession, where he plays environmentalist Ewan Roy. Off-screen, the veteran actor has been a huge supporter of animal rights for decades, working with PETA on multiple campaigns and going vegan after he starred in 1995 farmyard flick Babe.
