Alec Baldwin was handed a loaded prop gun by an assistant director who indicated it was safe to use, moments before the actor fatally shot his crew member, according to court documents.

Per BBC News, the assistant director shouted "cold gun" before handing him the firearm on the set of the upcoming Western, Rust, a search warrant filed in a Santa Fe court showed.

He did not know the weapon was loaded with live rounds, The Guardian reports.

The shot hit cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in the chest and director Joel Souza, who was standing behind her, in the shoulder.

Hutchins was transported via helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital, but was later pronounced dead, per Deadline.

Souza was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, but has since been discharged, actress Frances Fisher wrote on Twitter.

Investigators obtained the warrant on Friday, October 22, to document the scene where the incident took place.

The weapon that was fired was taken as evidence, as well as Baldwin's blood-stained costume for the film. Investigators also seized prop guns and ammunition that were being used on the set as part of the investigation.

Per Independent, the weapon that was fired had been placed on a cart by the film's armorer, along with two other guns.

The assistant director grabbed the gun from the cart, which was outside a wooden structure where a scene was being acted, and brought it inside to Baldwin, a detective wrote.

Meanwhile, the film's script supervisor, Mamie Mitchell, said she was standing next to Hutchins when she was shot.

On the call, the 911 operator tries to ask Mitchell how many people were injured and, confused, Mitchell replies: "No, no, I'm a script supervisor."

The operator asks again, and Mitchell says, per Daily Mail: "Two that I know of. I was sitting there rehearsing and it went off and I ran out. We all went out there, but doubled over the camerawoman and the director."

Mitchell said a private memorial service was being held on Friday night in Santa Fe, with crew members expected to attend.
