While welcoming a new child into the world has been a time of happiness for Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott, the arrival of their baby daughter came close to the anniversary of the death of their son Zen.

The 29-year-old model gave birth to her and 41-year-old Cannon's daughter, Halo Marie, on December 14. She is Scott's third and Cannon's twelfth child. Taking to Instagram at the time, Scott announced the birth of Halo with a sweet video that also paid tribute to her late son.

"December 14, 2022. Our lives are forever changed [...] Zen is in every breath I take. I know his spirit was with us in the room that morning. I know he is watching down on us. He shows me signs every day. I will hold onto this memory forever. I will remember the sound of Nick's voice saying 'it's a girl' and the look of everything we've been through flash across his face," Scott wrote.

"I will remember the sound of her crying out with her first breath and feeling her heartbeat against mine. My sweet girl, I got my surprise!! We love you Halo Marie Cannon!", she added.

Scott and Cannon suffered a great tragedy when their five-month-old son Zen passed away in December 2021 after battling brain cancer. Just days after his death, Cannon revealed the sad news on his daytime show, telling the audience: "I didn't know how I was gonna handle today but I just really wanted to grieve with my family, people who love you.

"I didn't want to make it about any pageantry so I kind of went back and forth of what I should do but I was always taught, you go through it you grow through it, you keep pushing. I'm here to show that I can fight through this, I'm feeling it, I'm vulnerable, I'm open. This is a special show dedicated to my beautiful son Zen," Cannon had told the audience, via PEOPLE.

Now, one year on from Zen's death, Scott posted a photo on her Instagram story of a dresser piled high with boy's clothes. "Well, today is the day I had to pack up Zen's dresser," the new mom had written on the image. "Thinking I was going to have a boy brought me some comfort because I didn't think I would have to face this part. But, it's time to make room for Halo [...] and it's going to be okay. Girls rock blue too! So this is what stays."
