Amber Heard fans have slammed Helena Bonham Carter after she seemingly called out the actress in an interview.

In a recent interview with The Times, the 56-year-old Harry Potter actress defended her former co-star Johnny Depp, who is also the godfather to her kids.

In response to a question specifically about the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor, Bonham Carter said she feels that he is "completely vindicated" following his highly publicized defamation trial with his 36-year-old ex-wife.

The Crown actress was also asked if the trial was a sign of the #MeToo pendulum swinging back and replied: "My view is that she got on that pendulum. That's the problem with these things - that people will jump on the bandwagon because it's the trend and to be the poster girl for it."

Bonham Carter and Depp have starred in several Tim Burton-directed films together such as Corpse Bride (2005), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), and Alice in Wonderland (2010).

The Enola Homes actress has long defended the Edward Scissorhands star so it's no surprise that she decided to speak out for him again. However, this has led her to face some significant backlash on social media.

As Bonham Carter claims that the Aquaman actress took advantage of MeToo, many of Heard's supporters pointed out that the movement rose to prominence in 2017 - a year after she made her initial allegations amid divorce proceedings.

One user wrote: "Interesting that Helena Bonham Carter said that amber Heard to 'jump on the bandwagon' 2 years before said bandwagon was even a thing... #IStandWithAmberHeard."

Another commented: "Helena Bonham Carter thinks Amber Heard tried to become the 'poster girl' for #MeToo even though Amber’s accusations were in early 2016, and #MeToo didn’t become a thing until 2017 - a whole year after Johnny Depp released a statement declaring Amber never made false accusations."

A third user pointed out: "Helen Bonham Carter thinks women jump on a bandwagon of #metoo because it’s the trend and Amber Heard wanted 'to be the poster girl for it'. I think this is victim-blaming rhetoric. No woman wants to be vilified, humiliated and dragged through two courts."

Lastly, a fourth user expressed: "I'm so disappointed in Helena Bonham Carter. Another actor who entertained us so much with their work and then turns out to be a d***ie clown who is detached from reality and ignorant as hell."

Elsewhere in the interview, the Fight Club actress also commented on the criticism the 57-year-old Harry Potter author JK Rowling has received over her supposed transphobic remarks.

Bonham Carter - who played Bellatrix Lestrange in the franchise - said: "It’s horrendous, a load of bollocks. I think she has been hounded. It’s been taken to the extreme, the judgmentalism of people. She’s allowed her opinion, particularly if she’s suffered abuse."

"Everybody carries their own history of trauma and forms their opinions from that trauma and you have to respect where people come from and their pain," she continued.

"You don’t all have to agree on everything - that would be insane and boring. She’s not meaning it aggressively, she’s just saying something out of her own experience," she added.

When asked about the film's star trio - Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint - who have all spoken out against Rowling's comments, Bonham Carter said: "Personally I feel they should let her have her opinions, but I think they’re very aware of protecting their own fan base and their generation."
