Amy Schumer has been forced to defend herself after being accused of making fun of Tom Holland's social media break.

The 41-year-old comedian, whose stand-up career started way back in 2004, appeared to take a jab at Spiderman: No Way Home star, Holland, who announced he was taking a social media break for mental health reasons.

Taking to her Instagram last week Schumer posted a video, captioned "important mental health announcement," that was an apparent joke about social media and mental health.

"I have decided, for my own mental health, to do more social media. I find that looking at my phone for eight and a half hours a day is helping me, and it’s helping this pimple patch and this breakout," the Trainwreck star said.

"And being in my 40s it's actually good for me to watch all of Love Island and all of The Bachelors, whether in paradise or just normal mansions," she continued, "so you'll be seeing a lot more of me on social media, just for my physical and mental wellbeing."

While the comedian may have thought the internet would find her video hilarious, many fans didn't - they were quick to spot that Schumer's post came just one day after Holland shared a video to his 67 million Instagram followers about taking a mental health break.

One Twitter user savagely dissed Schumer, writing: "THIS IS WHY MENTAL HEALTH ISN'T TAKEN SERIOUSLY BECAUSE STUPID PEOPLE WANT TO BUTT IN AND CRACK JOKES WHEN IT'S NOT A FUNNY SITUATION.. Amy Schumer keep your irrelevant self away from Tom Holland [sic]."

In his video, which has over 22 million views, Holland discusses taking a step back from social media to focus on his mental health.

"I have taken a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming. I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online. And ultimately, it's very detrimental to my mental state so I decided to take a step back and delete the app," he says in the 3 minute clip.

The British actor, whose family has their own mental health charity named The Brothers Trust, continued by using his platform to bring attention to a UK-based teen mental health organization that he sponsors, called stem4, in the caption of his post.

"Stem4 is one of the many charities The Brothers Trust is extremely proud to support - and I'd like to take a moment to shine a light on their fantastic work," Holland wrote.

"Please take the time to watch my video, and should you feel inclined to share it with anyone who it may resonate with - it would be greatly appreciated," the caption continued.

Holland finished the caption by sending love to his fans, before encouraging them to "get talking about mental health."

Several days after posting her video, Schumer once again took to Instagram. This time, she defended herself against the internet's accusations that she was mocking the actor.
