Amy Schumer has shared her thoughts on the Barbie movie after she dropped out of playing the lead role in the 2016 live-action film.

The actress, best known for her roles in I Feel Pretty and Snatched, was supposed to be portraying Barbie in Mattel and Sony Pictures' rendition of the live-action movie, but due to conflicting schedules, she had to drop out of the project just a few months later.

"The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners," she said in a statement obtained by E! News at the time. "I'm bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen."

Later on, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 42-year-old actually explained that the reasons for her departure were slightly more "complicated" than that.

"They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it," she told the outlet in 2022.

She also added that while she wished to portray the lead as an ambitious inventor, the studio actually wanted to essentially dumb down the idea to fit the stereotypical Barbie image.

They even sent her a pair of glamorous Manolo Blahniks to celebrate the occasion - and let's just say the move did not sit well with the Trainwreck actress.

"The idea that that’s just what every woman must want, right there, I should have gone, 'You’ve got the wrong gal,'" she said.

However, just days after Greta Gerwig's rendition of the iconic movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling hit big screens all around the world, Schumer has re-connected with her inner Barbie.

And it seems as though she's loving it.

"Really enjoyed Barbie and Oppenheimer," she wrote in a post on Instagram before poking fun at Christopher Nolan's latest venture adding: "...But I think I should have played Emily Blunt's role. Do better Hollywood."

Prior to watching the film, the star also expressed her excitement at the prospect.

Speaking during an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen back in June, she said: "I can't wait to see the movie. It looks awesome."

Gerwig's Barbie was released on July 21 and has already racked up some pretty impressive numbers especially considering that viewing schedule conflicted with the three-hour drama thriller, Oppenheimer.

Not only has the 39-year-old director made history for having the biggest opening weekend for a film directed by a woman, but has also managed to rake in a whopping $377 million during that time too.

As per The Guardian, Barbie claimed the top spot in North America (US and Canada combined) with a massive $155m in ticket sales from 4,243 locations, surpassing The Super Mario Bros Movie and every Marvel film released this year to become the biggest opening of the year.

Oppenheimer also saw some impressive numbers as per the outlet, which reported that it took in $80.5m from 3,610 theatres all around the US making it "Nolan’s biggest non-Batman debut and one of the best ever starts for an R-rated biographical drama."
