Ariana Grande has lost nearly half a million Instagram followers after dropping a new song addressing her rumored relationship with Ethan Slater.
The 30-year-old singer-songwriter has been caught up in controversy in recent years due to her divorce from Dalton Gomez after two years of marriage and her rumored relationship with Wicked co-star.
Grande officially filed for divorce from the luxury real estate agent, 28, on September 18. TMZ reported that the date of separation was listed as February 20, 2023, with Grande's lawyer citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.
Just days after news broke about her separation, reports surfaced that the musician had found love on set with her 31-year-old co-star. But, the rumored romance confused many as Slater was married to Lilly Jay, with whom he shares a son. However, speculations continued to intensify as TMZ reported that the Broadway actor filed for divorce from Jay last summer.
While the 'Thank U, Next' singer has not opened up about her relationship status, she let critics know that she doesn't care about their commentary in her new single 'Yes, and?' which was released last Friday (January 12).
The refreshingly positive track is the lead single from her forthcoming seventh album and is written and produced by Grande alongside her two main collaborators Max Martin and ILYA.
The single - which has a Paula Abdul-inspired music video - is a dance-floor-ready response to her biggest detractors, as she belts in the second verse: "I’m so done with caring, what you think. No, I won’t hide underneath your own projections or change my most authentic life."
Throughout the tune, the 'Break Free' star tells her haters that everybody is "healing from somebody" and requests that people "don’t comment on my body, do not reply."
She gets even more explicit when she alludes to her new romance with Slater as she states: "Your business is yours and mine is mine. Why do you care so much whose d*** I ride?"
On Wednesday (January 17), the Grammy-winning pop star announced that her next record will be titled Eternal Sunshine, and it is set to drop on March 8th. The singer shared the dreamy cover art, and it shows her donning red lipstick, red gloves, and a white top.
Even though the post about Grande's seventh project amassed almost 4 million likes on Instagram, there had been a pretty mixed reaction from the general public as the singer lost nearly half a million followers on the social media platform, according to Social Blade.
Most of them have unfollowed the 'Love Me Harder' hitmaker after she announced 'Yes, And?' - which implies that this may be due to the subject of the song.
Nevertheless, the message of the song was clearly welcomed by many Arianators as the single landed over 11 million streams on its first day, which is a big feat for the singer, and also debuted at number one on the Global Spotify Chart.
You can listen to 'Yes And?" on music streaming services now. Eternal Sunshine will be released on March 8th.
