Aubrey Plaza's co-star has revealed what really happened at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards over the weekend, after the actress was seen mouthing some rude phrases while on stage with the White Lotus cast.
The SAG Awards moment sparked chaos as fans leaped to their social media accounts to question what on earth was going on with 38-year-old Plaza.
The incident occurred when White Lotus actor F. Murray Abraham, 83, gave a speech on behalf of the cast, while Jon Gries - who plays the husband of Jennifer Coolidge's iconic character - grabbed Plaza by the arm and appeared to whisper something in her ear. Gries appeared to mention something about Plaza's dress, which was dangerously close to a wardrobe malfunction, causing her to adjust it before turning her attention back to Abraham.
Then, as Abraham said "a prayer out to the earthquake victims of Syria and Turkey and a prayer for peace in Ukraine and Russia," and shouted "union forever", Plaza appeared to also mouth "Jesus Christ". As the speech ended and the cast began to walk off, Plaza was also seen saying "s**t's f**ked" before leaving the stage.
While some people theorized that Plaza was probably nervous or feeling awkward, others suggested she might have even been peeved she didn't get to speak on stage. Regardless, the incident was obvious enough to warrant public commentary.
Now, it seems, Gries, 65, has taken to Page Six to reveal what really happened on that stage, and it was all purely innocent. The actor - who played Tanya McQuoid's emotionally absent husband during the second season of White Lotus - told the outlet that he had simply told Plaza to "look to the front" as she was "being blocked by about 15 people."
He then added that he'd said: "You might wanna fix that," in reference to Plaza's 70s-inspired custom Michael Kors dress. The actor also revealed to Page Six that Plaza had mouthed "Jesus Christ" afterward because she was "just being funny."
"I think what she was intimating is why would that be a problem if my nipple is showing. That's her humor - she has that dry, dead-pan wit; that's her biting wit," he admitted.

Gries also took the chance to dismiss the fan theory that Plaza had become frustrated she wasn't able to give a speech on stage, saying that the whole cast wanted Abraham to speak on their behalf.
"We wanted him to speak; we all wanted him to. He's F. Murray Abraham! He's a frigging legend," he stated.
