A bar has gone viral on social media after introducing a drink named after Johnny Depp, created to help men seek help privately.
The unknown tavern has sparked a debate after a sign named after the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star began circulating online.
The sign, originally shared on Reddit, said: "Feeling unsafe or scared, just come to the bar and order a Johnny Depp shot," and explained three versions of the shot that will prompt different responses and actions from the bar employees.
It says that if you order "neat" then you will get safely escorted out of the bar by an employee. If you order it "on the rocks" then a bar staffer will call a taxi for you, and if you get it "with lime" then the bar will call the police.
"We will handle things discreetly and without fuss," the sign explained at the bottom.
Check out the sign below:The drink is assumed to be an interpretation of the Angel Shot, which was created to support women who might feel unsafe or uncomfortable because of other customers.
However, while the Angel Shot has been applauded for its initiative, the shot named after the Edward Scissorhands star has mixed reviews so far.
A user on Twitter shared the sign on the social media platform and many people are weighing in with their opinions.
Taking a positive stance, one user wrote: "There’s a long way to go but Johnny is already making a difference for male targets of abuse."
Another said: "I’m glad you highlighted this was in a male bathroom. I’ve seen posters for the angel shots & glad there’s a male equivalent!"
A third commented: "Absolutely love this so glad male victims are being [recognized] as victims too and they are making positive changes so male victims can come forward."
However, other users disagreed with the name of the sign, due to the actor’s recent defamation trial against his 36-year-old ex-wife Amber Heard.
One user wrote: "A) Yes, everyone should be able to have access to help without alerting whoever they're with for safety. B) This is the dumbest possible thing they could've called it."
Another commented: "I hope they have the same in the girl's toilets and not just the men bc??? 'We will call the police' does sound a bit unhinged tho. Highly doubt they’ll call the police on any client who asks without questions?? The signs for women never say that."
The tavern seemingly called their drink the "Johnny Depp shot" after details emerged from his relationship with the Aquaman actress during the highly-publicized six-week defamation case in Fairfax, Virginia.
A seven-person jury concluded that Danish Girl star, Amber, defamed Depp in her 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post. While Depp wasn’t named in the article - in which, she claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse - his legal team argued that the piece was defamatory against her ex-husband.
The court agreed and awarded him $10.4 million in compensatory and punitive damages. Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages out of the $100 million she was seeking in her countersuit.
