Barbie fans are apparently pretty furious over the music chosen for the upcoming movie's trailer.

For those who are unaware (if so, where have you been hiding?!) Barbie manufacturer Mattel has partnered up with Warner Bros. for a new live-action Barbie movie, directed by Greta Gerwig.

Australian actress Margot Robbie stars in the titular role, while Ryan Gosling will be Ken. A host of other famous faces have joined the cast as well - including Issa Rae, Emma Mackey, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, and Ncuti Gatwa.

Fans of the fantastically plastic figurines were ecstatic when the full trailer finally dropped this week, showing Robbie as the famous blonde kids' toy.

However, one iconic song was noticeably absent - Aqua's 'Barbie Girl'.

"the barbie trailer should have used barbie girl-" someone took to Twitter to write.

"I can't believe they didn't use aqua's barbie girl for the trailer??? this feels like a crime," another person added.

A further user chimed in: "they really missed a stellar opportunity."

"THE MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE BARBIE GIRL PLAY IN THIS TRAILER like… « Hi Barbie » « Hi Ken » YOU WANNA GO FOR A RIDE ? SURE KEN. I’M A BARBIE GIRL IN A BARBIE WORLD," another comment read.

Someone else tweeted: "Kind of excited for this. But if they played 'Barbie Girl', by [Aqua] in the trailer it would be miles better. Hiya, Barbie, Hi, Ken, You want to go for a ride?"

One person even took the liberty of re-editing the whole trailer to include Aqua's hit song, writing: "I re-edited the Barbie Trailer with Aqua's Barbie Girl' the way it should have always been."

Aside from the lack of 'Barbie Girl', many fans were also surprised to learn that Amy Schumer had originally been given the lead role, which she eventually turned down. We haven't even seen the Barbie movie yet and we already know that Robbie was the most obvious choice - something that Schumer eventually realized after she turned down the part because she didn't feel it was right for her.

According to BuzzFeed News, development on the Barbie movie began in 2009 when Mattel partnered with Universal Pictures to create a Barbie movie. When nothing happened, Mattel ended up deciding to work with Sony Pictures in 2014, and in 2016 Schumer was brought on to star in the titular role as well as co-write the script. Months later, she backed out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

In 2022, Schumer actually admitted that this wasn't true and that she'd actually just felt that the role wasn't a good fit for her. The mom-of-one told The Hollywood Reporter that Sony "definitely didn't want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it."

In fact, their visions couldn't have been farther apart - with Schumer telling the outlet that she had wanted her version of Barbie to be an "ambitious inventor", with Sony suggesting that her invention be high heels made of Jell-O. She then added that the studio even sent her a pair of Manolo Blahniks to celebrate her role. "The idea that that's just what every woman must want, right there, I should have gone, 'You've got the wrong gal.'"

Now the movie is being distributed by Warner Bros., and is set for release July 21. Get ready!
