The Big Bang Theory star Kate Micucci has opened up about having surgery for lung cancer, despite never having smoked in her life.

The actress, 43, took to TikTok to share a video from her hospital bed, revealing that she'd had an operation after lung cancer was discovered in her body.

She told her followers: "Hey everybody, this is not a TikTok it's a sick-Tok. I’m in the hospital but it’s because I had lung cancer surgery yesterday, they caught it really early."

Kate added: "It’s pretty weird because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life so it was a surprise but also, I guess it happens."

Thankfully, she revealed that the cancer was caught in its very early stages, adding: "And so the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out, I’m all good.

"But it’s been a little bit of a trip and [I’ll] probably be moving slow for a few weeks but then I’ll be back at it."

Kate, who played the Lucy, the love interest of Raj Koothrappali (played by Kunal Nayyar) on the hit comedy series The Big Bang Theory, revealed that she was looking forward to getting back to painting once she recovered.

She also shared a short clip of her getting up and about and walking through the ward while pushing her drip stand along with her.

Fans soon flooded Kate's comments with well-wishes, with many asking her what symptoms she'd experienced before the cancer was found in such early stages.

One asked: "What made you go in to get it checked out? was it a general check up? or was there symptoms?", to which Kate responded: "I had one thing in my bloodwork that came back really high.

"So I went to a preventative doc who did a few scans. He scanned my heart and That’s where the spot in my lung was noticed."

Fans shared their good wishes for her continued recovery, writing: "So happy it was caught in time and speedy recovery. Please get biomarker testing on the tumor."

Others added: "I'm glad they caught it in time. get well soon," and: "Glad they caught it early. Get lots of rest and be gentle on yourself when you do a lot of thinking about it in the days to come."

One commented: "OM Goodness I'm so very happy to hear that it was caught early and you are doing well. Get better and stronger, please. The world needs you."

We wish Kate a speedy recovery and continued good health.
