Since the coronavirus pandemic has driven us all indoors, videogames are a safe bet for a great form of escapism. In the last month alone we've seen a number of big first-person-shooter franchises release new titles to help curb our boredom, like Id Software's classic throwback Doom Eternal, or the innovative new Valve title Half-Life: Alyx.

But if you prefer multiplayer deathmatches and online experiences compared to single-player campaigns, then you might be feeling left out right now.

However, if you do feel you're missing out then I have good news for you: the multiplayer mode for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remaster will be available for free as of this weekend.

Starting tonight at 6pm, and ending on Monday, April 6th, you can play as much of CoD's multiplayer mode as you like for absolutely nothing. There's just one catch: you can only access the multiplayer via the free-to-play spinoff game Warzone. Once you've downloaded that, you'll have full access to the Atlas Superstore and Shoot House maps, and the Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, and Headquarters game modes.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is also getting a remaster in the near future:

In a recent blog post, developer Activision wrote: "Now's your chance to get to know Modern Warfare Multiplayer combat in two concentrated, visually stunning settings. You'll be able to experience 6v6 and 10v10 gameplay with Modern Warfare and free-to-play Warzone players alike. And, you'll get a deeper knowledge of the weapons and equipment you've encountered in Warzone."

"There's no time to waste: Experience Modern Warfare Multiplayer starting on April 3 at 10 AM PDT only live until 10 AM PT on April 6. In this genre-defining take on Multiplayer, you're sure to experience a fast-paced fight where combat is constant and there's a skirmish at every turn. So, grab your friends, hit the lobby, and get your dukes up!"

Personally, I can't wait to download this. I know what I'll be getting up to this weekend...
