Cara Delevingne has broken her silence after being called "rude" for refusing an interview opportunity at the Grand Prix.

The 30-year-old model became the subject of scrutiny online after a video of her rejecting an interview offer from former British racing driver Martin Brundle at Silverstone yesterday.

Interviewing on behalf of Sky Sports, Brundle approached the Paper Towns actress in the hopes that he would get a few minutes of content out of her ahead of the big race, but things quickly took a turn when Delevingne rejected the interview.

First approaching her representative, Brundle says: "Well the deal is everyone has to speak on the grid."

He then goes to Delevingne directly saying: "Can we have a quick chat? Sky F1, good to see you on the grid," to which she quickly replies "no."

Instead re-directs the conversation to the loudness of the racing atmosphere stating that she couldn't hear him over the noise of the track.

She then doubles down by repeating "no" before adding: "I can't hear anything, I'm so sorry."

Rather than complaining, Brundle sarcastically signs off from the segment by saying: "Alright, well, I'm sure it would have been extremely interesting."

After the video was posted to Twitter by the official Sky Sports F1 account alongside the caption "It wouldn't be a Martin Brundle gridwalk without a little awkwardness," many users took to the comments to slam the former Chanel ambassador as "rude."

"Terrible form," wrote one user. "This is Martin Brundle’s gridwalk. Has been for eternity. It’s kind of like being invited to a party at someone’s house and when the host wants to meet you telling them to pi** off."

"She was incredibly rude. These celebs need binning. It's a privilege to be on the grid, just share the insights to the atmosphere," added another.

A third also commented: "F1 teams need to stop inviting people who genuinely don’t care about the sport or even have respect for it. Martin is well know in Formula 1, as a presenter & driver, he deserves respect. It’s part of being on the grid, you will be interviewed!"

In the wake of the controversy, Delevingne has come out to defend herself.

Responding to a user who wrote: "At this point, Martin Brundle is just doing it to manufacture the moment for the controversy of it all. You can clearly see the PR rep tell him "no" and shake his head when he goes up towards Cara Delevingne. He had an out and he chose not to take it to make a statement," Delevingne quote tweeted with her own comment on the situation.

"I was told to say no so I did. Thank you for seeing both sides xxx," she tweeted.

She followed up the tweet with another stating that despite the drama, she had "fun" at the event.
